I have a small ring mauser that i'm going to rebarrel,it's chambered in 308 now. I already have a 308 and a 243 so i would like a different cartridge. It will be used mostly for punching paper, plinking, and coyotes. I want it as accurate as it can be for a mauser, what would be your cartridge choice, barrel make and twist rate? I was thinking of going with a 260 remington.

Well Jason, the 6.5X55 Swedish was, maybe still is one of the most accurate cartridges ever chambered for a Mauser action. 260 Remington and the 6.5X55 are a bit of over-kill for yotes .223, 22-250 are hard to beat and it keeps things simple. Someone else will have to speak for how they run through the longer action. When you have decided on a cartridge talk to your barrel maker about twist rate, he should have the answers you need.

Well, look at a........

6MM Remington, or a variant like the 240 Page (don't know your experience level, but you can develop a good load to form with, while you're hunting) using an 80grain "Blitz" or the 85BTHP Sierras, with a 1 in 9" twist(Little heavy for paper, unless its OUT there) or the 6X47 Lapua, or an improved version, if you feel its desireable. These will slip the wind a bit better than a .22 caliber bullet.

The 6.5X55 Bob Jourdan AI, is the ctg for you. All of the ctgs like the 7X57 will work just fine through your action. I too have a soft spot for the 6X55.

I have on in a 22-250, with a remington take off barrel. It feeds wonderful! In a Fajen stock, contoured the follower to slip under the bolt upon closing.

What cal

I think you are getting good advise here. If you don't have a use for the 308 takeoff bbl I sure could use it here for an action that I am trying to make usefull for my godson. uncowbnoy@comcast.net. Thanks, J.Michael
