i am going to start shooting 1000/maybe 600.
the rifle i bought has a stock with a flat on the bottom of the butt.
so i am thinking i "need" a rear bag that has a gap between the ears.
any recommendations on such a rear bag ??
or just buy one and go shoot ??
choice not really an issue ???

thanks

What's the width (on the butt) of your finished stock?
Do you want to be on the stitching or on the ears?

For heavier rifles, fast twist barrels, and calibers with torque, I recommend being on the stitching for both tracking and vertical gains. For light recoiling and lighter weight rifles, like say a 10.5-lb 6PPC or a 223 varmint rifle, then I like being on the ears better. For my Lt.Gun I have a Shehane Tooley MBR (5/8"-wide) stock and use a Protektor Model Deluxe BB with double-stitched Cordura mid-ears.

Another good way is to call a mfg directly and tell them with your particulars, and they will fix you up to match your stock and desires.
Personally I like Protektor bags, prices, and they have great service. I have them fill the bags with Heavy sand and ship to me ready.

your stock is 5/8's( as is mine) and you use 3/8's spacing ??
i too like protector products.

No..... it's a "double stitched" which snugs in the 5/8"-wide butt onto the stitching. Protektor part # 14BC.5DSD BB
I get better tracking and less vertical by being on the stitching (6Dasher / 17-lb).
