Well I had some junk layin around so I cobbled it togeather & made a Rifle . Got in shootable & had this prob. it will shoot 2 shots VERY close togeather then punt 1 an inch from the 1st 2 , Ive seen this before but this gun is so commited to this its unbeleavible no particular pattern but 2/3 is goin to be VERY CLOSE & the other 1 " out . This is what I had , A 24/47 mauser & a old308 parker hale heavy bbl. The bbl. had flat spots milled in it We welded them up I Cut the orig. stock down & glued all kind of wood on it & made a 1000 yd. lookin stock. The lugs lapped at about 80 % so didnt bother them . The chamber seems to be sloppy but didnt shoot anything over an inch all day. Anyone have a suggestion as to why a gun throws 1 shot like that , I shot factory & reloads ,130 gr. bullets & 150 Gr. bbl free floared Glass bedded . pillar in the rear. Trigger is a bold set @ 1.5 lb.

You actually...

....performed welding on the barrel??? I believe thats a big no-no.
I'm afraid to ask, but how did you check head-space?

Gotta agree with LHSmith on welding on the barrel, unless it was TIG welded by someone who really knows what he's doing then stress relieved, I don't think I'd want to have a barrel that had been welded on. If the barrel was straight before the welding it'd likely have warped from the heat of welding, and possibly it's able to put two shots together but the heat developed by them causes the barrel to bend a little in response to the warpage. That's one reason that match barrels aren't "straightened" - they're likely to want to bend back to their original shape when they get warm.

Headspace what the Heck is headspace!?No actually we did use a gauge. Maybe I didnt splain it enough. This was just stuiff I had And Didnt really expect it to shoot great. But With no more than I had to work with & even less to lose It was just an excercise for fun. As for the welding Again I had NUTTIN to loose I had a bbl.that had a flat spot near the breech I could have thrown it away or experimented SOOOO I experimented . Trouble is the darn thing shoots pretty good So now I want to fix it. Look guys Im NOT a gunsmith I am what I describe as an advanced hobbyist my friends & I Have barreled up several actions Safely. What I need to know is what are some of the things I could look for that would cause this.
