Question?

I bought a used Rem700 really cheap(100 bucks). The problem is it was twisted by someone getting the barrel off. What I want to know is if I mounted a scope on it using the Burris Signature rings with the inserts would that alleviate hurting the scope? My other alturnative is using some old B&L mounts and scope with the ajustments in the mounts. I would really like to use the Burris though. Any one dealt with this problem before?

Bob, the first set of live center rings I ever saw were the ones made by Arnold Jewell. He had a scope mounted in the rings on a set of bases that were about a 1/4" or more off the same plane and twisted away from each other. They were so mismatched that you would not have been able to install a scope in the bases at all with traditional rings. The Burris rings are built on the same principle as Arnold's rings. I don't know which came first Arnold's or Burris, but neither one will damage a scope with bases misaligned.

Bob,
I have a Mod 7 that was like that. Maybe I didn't do it right, but I put a bore sighter in it and twisted it slightly to bring it back into line. It has had a couple hundred rounds through it since. My Grandson has shot several hogs and deer with it. All have been one shot neck or head shots.

I would find out how much bend and where it is mostly located, then straighten it out using external wrenches/vises. Make sure you check the locking lug/barrel thread areas for any cracks or damage as these are about the only areas of the action that are critical for high stress safety.

If the bend were predominately in the rail area due the use of an internal action wrench that didnt engage the locking lugs, than I wouldnt have any worrys in the straightening process.................Don
