Question about barrel block set ups

If you were going to have a new rail built what barrel block set up would you go with? Pro's and con's ? TIA
 
Best I ever had was a round hole with the barrel bedded but I think that was because I had a really good barrel at the time. Pretty sure that if everybody chimed in here you would learn that one is no better than the other.

That said, if I had to choose, I think the rail that has the action bedded and the barrel free is the better way to go. Not from a shooting standpoint but it's easier to swap barrels. I don't actually have experience there but it seems so....and I've been beaten over and over by those darn things.
 
Round hole Delrin sleeve! Lots of guys shooting them! Dusty, I have an un modified Polar, of course its on my Hasecuster rail!
 
Barrel Blocks

I prefer a round hole..... nicely finished....close to the barrel diameter... ( +.001-+.002 )...and the use of rosin.
 
My rail has the delrin sleeve but most have the v block. If you have a complete pkg that shoots good- barrel, action, trigger, rail, scope then i dont think it matters how its mounted as ive seen em all win.
Steelhead, tell me about that polar. What port config etc. i have a big soft spot for polars. Most got cooling slots milled in em back in the day. Ive had some sweet ones back in my cruiser shooting days.

It is a dual port and has all the vent holes you speak of, and last year I sent it back to Kelblys and had them add their ejection system and new FPspring and basic bolt cleanup. Oh and it is has a 308 bolt face but is used only as a ppc! During the off season I am going to set the barrel back, or buy a new one and chamber it. Since I do my own barrel work, I can set it back and only have my time invested!
 
Back when people were using polars alot i had one i really liked and it was unmolested. I asked skip otto why most had vents and did i need to vent mine. He said one guy with a new mill way back vented it and said it had to be better instead of the heat having to go up the action and out. I thought it sounded fine and skip told me to keep mine original since it may be one of the last originals. So i decided to flute the barrel under the shroud. Never seen a difference either way. Now i have a sleeved 40x with the polar footprint and a shilen action thats bigger than that.
 
The last polar cruiser i sold was to a member here. I sure miss that one and wish i had another to add to my collection

I could build a cruiser with this Polar, it has the square back tang, and I do have a brand new Lee Six stock, but it is for the tapered tang! I don't have a mill but I do have a buddy that will let me use his to recon tour the tang, and doing that would not have an impact on still using it as a rail gun. I have considered buying a new rail gun and turning the Polar into a Bag gun, only because I have never shot a bag gun! Sure seems like most of us that shoot are tinkering with different options all the time!
 
Man just whiddle that stock out instead of the action. I love cruisers especially when they have a railgun type base. I have a few and still toy with em but as often as a railgun match comes along ill be shooting a rail. I do get sick of toting it around tho
