Quality cartridge brass?

Did you read the one star review?

No, I had not. Wasn't seriously considering purchasing any since I have plenty.

Since his is one opinion and it's unfavorable, is that necessarily an indictment of every piece they've ever made?

Well

if his measurement are true and his application is long range accuracy he probably is correct in his assumptions. I presume you sent it back for a refund? Grafs is a great place to deal with imoe.

I didn't purchase any, but just stumbled upon them by happenstance. I have rifles in both .25-06 and 6.5-06 and the most expedient way to make 6.5-06 ammo is to just seat a bullet into a .25-06 case. I will probably take both next fall when I go hunting in WY and need to make sure I don't get the ammo mixed up. A headstamp doesn't seem like the most foolproof way to differentiate them so I'm just going to load my 6.5-06 hunting rounds in nickel plated cases. Even those seem to be as scarce as hen's teeth these day.

Some say that nickel plated cases can harm sizing dies. I assume that's from nickel flakes scratching the die surface. I doubt that I'll ever get to that point tho.

I expect that Graf's may have accepted it as a return tho technically it wasn't [IMO at least] defective.

No it's not, but would you would just disregard it?

No, esp. not at that price. If it was for common hunting ammo maybe not so critical. Still a lot to pay just for a headstamp. I did do a little Googling before purchasing the Priv Partizan brass tho so there's that. I already have a suitable alternative that I got for free since it was once-fired range pickup brass.

I had a recent order with Graf so out of morbid curiosity I decided to add a 20 count bag of the 6.5-06 to my order. Looked good on arrival. No dents, scratches, squished mouths, etc. First order of business was to run my handy dandy Sinclair .263 carbide expander through the necks. Next tried trimming but they didn't need it. Ran the flash hole deburrer thru them. The fit was tight but not much brass taken out. Do a light chamfer to clean up any mouth burrs and then turn the necks.

At this point the first 5 cases weighed 178.6 178.0 178.6 178.4 and 178.2 grains

By contrast 5 new Norma .25-06 cases fresh from the box weighed 184.8 184.0 184.4 185 and 185.2 grains

One day soon we'll see how they do at the range.

OK..... another view on brass.

A few of MY OPINIONS on brass.

I've done the brass thing pretty heavily for a number of yrs (since the mid eighties? Some of my first brass assessment tests were with Sako balloon-head, the winningest at the time)

To me "how brass comes" is a complete nothingburger. It's ALL just a formless hunk of modeling clay out of the box, useless for anything but a base product from which to form working cases.

"How brass becomes" is all I care about. It must SHOOT, it must LAST while shooting.

And "shooting" means dots. Round holes. 5 shots under 1/4moa.

PERIOD

Anything less is just going bang and spending my hard-earned money for noise...... We buy/build/mfgr and utilate HE and fireworks for that.

To shoot under 1/4moa IMO;

It must get HARD
It must get STRAIGHT

that's it

Almost thought that you were talking about a penis there for a moment.

So have you ever taken a combo of powder, bullets, primers, seating depth etc. that's known to shoot bughole groups and tried different brands of brass all prepped the same way to see what effect the brass has? Just askin?

Well, YES

and well......... no

To achieve similar results the various setups have to effect the rig the same way. In essence they must achieve the same velocity, consistently using the same burning curve. The rifle flexes like Fatima Of The Seven Veils when it's fired. It must flex exactly the same each time the trigger's pulled or Fatima will spit her snoose differently and miss the spittoon. It's all in the timing...... kinda' like the knife-throwing act where the blind-folded thrower hucks his blades at the damsel on the wheel. You stop the wheel or tickle the hurler and the girl's gonna mess the floor. Everything must come together at the same time for the act to work, for the dude to miss putting a blade in her eye.

But, in short-hand, if 5 brands of cases CAN meet at those same parameters then the brass isn't an issue. All 5 brands of case are "equal."
