The new Long Range Score Shoots scheduled after the 600 yd NBRSA National Championships looks very interesting. I am curious as to how many additional loaded rounds would be needed to complete this match ?

Carl
I asked several people about it including one in charge and got no real answers.Gary Noble gave me the best scenario so far so I would contact him.
Its to bad they never worked on getting the bench assignments out in the open instead of behind closed doors but you already know who controls what.
Good Luck

OK, now let me get this straight..... Lynn are you saying that bench assignment at the friggin' NATIONALS is secret?

You'll never see me there if that's the case

Al, I think he's implying it might not completely be on the up-n-up....

• Individual NBRSA 1,000-Yard Benchrest clubs have

the responsibility for determining shooting positions

and assignment of shooters to relays.

I can't cut, copy and paste from a pdf file very well but the bench assignments are up to the club to decide on.
I have been to every 600 yard Nationals and most of the 1,000 yard nationals and have never seen anybody draw a bench.Your bench is assigned to you per the rules and nothing has ever been out in the open.
Some shooters at our matches are what we call real shooters and they will beat you from any bench on the range.Other shooters win the big matches but have never shot on the right hand side of the range ever in all my years of shooting there.
I was told it was blind luck that they drew the first bench 7 years in a row.You also need to know that at sacramento the benches get a number put on them with a piece of duct tape and a magic marker.Bench 5 might sound to you like the 5th bench but it might also be the very first bench.

Here is a interesting e-mail I received today concerning the match dates.

The December 2010 issue of NBRSA News says the board approved this match for Oct 21-23, not Apr 23-24 as shown on NBRSA blog. Please advise which date is correct.

The shooters don't know what is going on and the sanctioning body in charge is in complete and total chaos in my opinion.

Nobody seems to know exactly what is going on but if I was you I would bring more than 200 rounds of ammo.
You need 30 lightgun rounds at 600 and 60 heavygun rounds or 90 rounds total. You need that again at 1,000 yards meaning 180 rounds for your record targets only not including sighters or practice.I haven't a clue whaty f-class benchrest is and neither does anybody I've talked with except Gary Noble. He said 30 rounds plus unlimited sighters I think. That means if your shooting 3 targets you need another 90 rounds or 270 record rounds plus your sighters.I wouldn't show up with less than 400 rounds unless you hear from Louie and find out what is actually going on.
Historicaly we get more rain in April than in October so bring your umbrella as well.
Lynn

Bruce
Last time I talked with Dangerous Bob Dorton he said it was 20 shots with unlimited sighters and they spotted your shots all done in 30 minutes. He said you then had 2 sighters only and 20 more shots on paper for another 3 targets making it a 4 target agg.
Isn't it on the nbrsa website along with the rest of the rules?
Lynn

Bruce
That sounds good in print but just the facts please.

Who told you about the bench draw and who is doing the draw?

Will the shooters get to see it out in the open?

You said all assignments so does that mean the nbrsa officials as well? or will they set up there flags and claim they can't be moved like always?

You also mentioned big name shooters from the eastcoast but forgot to mention there names?
Lynn

My source, Lynn, is Gary Childs as/per Jim O'Connell.
My understanding is that Jim O'Connell will be doing the draw.

Don Nielson will not be there, due to a prior engagement.
It won't be the same without him.

Bruce
Jim is a stand up guy and a very good competitor as well.I am glad the club is doing this.Maybe somebody could talk to Lou Murdica about making this a permanent rule change as it is needed if they want anybody to attend any of there future ntional matches.

On the second part of your response I am completely beside myself. An Engagement for that guy who the heck would marry him????????

OOOPPPPSSS I think I read it wrong he has to go somewhere else.
I do agree with you that it won't be the same without him. This is now likely to be ther best nationals ever.Maybe Lou can consider making that a rule as well?

I do agree it will be a cheaper match.Normaly the two nationals are 3 days each and at $50 a day it costs a visiting shooter $300 plus two trips to the westcoast. It looks like $200 and one trip to shoot both matches.

Gary called me last night but I was on the phone with Crawford when he called.John will be using one of my heavyguns and the big rest so my guns will still be there.I might have a ringer of my own shooting our lightguns there as well.
Lynn

Now... as to the F-Class/Benchrest event, it certainly seemed to me that this would result in amazing targets, as we have the advantage of a stable bench over the belly shooters.

If anything, i think the primary 'advantage' will be being able to sit up and watch the full range, flags and all, a little easier than someone laying down on the ground. Other than that... last I checked the ground is pretty stable ;)

Gary Childs, though, reports that the targets will probably look about the same

I'd take him at his word...

I sure hope I can have enough cases prepped.

Ya know... a while back when I mentioned having to sort and prep hundreds of cases for long-range match-grade accuracy, someone (not you) made some comments about loading for 'accuracy' vs. 'bulk'. Kind of ironic now to see things come back around... ;)

Bruce
Just got off of the phone with Gary.Well actually my cordless phone died from low batteries.

He said THE SHOOTERS WILL DRAW THERE OWN BENCHES.
He said they want the rule book changed to that as well.
He said the NRA rules will be followed for the F-Class event so maybe somebody can post them for all to see?

Lynn

IS NBRSA news correct

Sounds like a real shootout!!!,,,,I just read my NBRSA news and it says the 1000 yd nats. are months apart from the 600yd nats.!!!????....is this just rumors or are they combined and with added F-class shootout,,,,,shur makes the trip across the country worth it .....who can asure us of the times of these events.....are any of the officers aware of this thread.....Im not the only person wondering about vacation and a big trip to a match that is proposed, the NBRSA news that I recieved says one thing and this thread (and the link here)says something else???....Roger

Does anyone know what the entry fees will be this year for each of the matches...600, F-Class and 1K? The online application doesn't specify the fees. Thanks...

Charles G

Charles,

According to the on line NBRSA Rule book the following is what can be charged for match fees, this information can be found on page 35 of the online NBRSA rule book,

F. TOURNAMENT PROCEDURE.
1. REGISTRATION. All competitors at every Registered
Tournament shall be required to be a member of NBRSA
(effective 1/1/98), must complete a registration form, and must
produce for inspection a current membership card. If any
member shall fail to have with him/her his/her membership
card, he/she shall pay or have paid on his/her behalf, the
current NBRSA membership fee And, upon proof from the
NBRSA records, that he/she was a member in good standing
on the date of the tournament, a refund shall be made to
him/her. Any non-member may pay the prescribed annual
dues at any Registered Tournament and become a member of
NBRSA. New Shooters may shoot their first match without
being an NBRSA Member (beginning January 1, 2006).
2. REGISTRATION FEES.
(a) Club Fees. Each competitor shall be charged (or have
paid on his/her behalf) a registration fee for each day in which
he/she participates. As of January 1, 2005, the maximum
amount that may be charged is $40.00 per day. No Club may
charge more than a total of $40.00 per day and this will be
strictly enforced.
(b) National Championship Tournaments Registration
Fees are to be $40.00 per day maximum (as of January 1,
2005), regardless of the number of classes or stages fired in 1
day. No Club may charge more than a total of $40.00 per day
and this will be strictly enforced. Every competitor (with the
exclusion of the Junior shooters) at any NBRSA National
Championship Tournament will pay a "Trophy Fee" (to help
offset the cost of National trophies). These "Trophy Fees" are
to forwarded to NBRSA Headquarters by the Host Club.
Varmint, Sporter, and Unlimited shooters will pay $10.00 each;
while Hunter and Long-Range Varmint will pay $5.00 each;
and .22 Rimfire shooters will pay $2.00 each.

This information can be found on NBRSA web site by looking at the current on line rule book on page 35. If memory serves me correctly the fees that a range can charge has gone up and may be a maximum of $50.00 per day. Hopefully we will soon have registration forms available and know exactly what the match fees will be and the dates but one would not expect the match fees to be more than $50.00 per day for a total of $200.00 to shoot both 600 and 1000 yard National events. The F Class/Benchrest I have no idea what it would be as I have no desire to shoot it in the middle of a benchrest nationals. I spoke with Gary Childs and the benches and relay will be drawn on Tuesday before the 600 yard Nationals starts on Tuesday.

If there are only two relays relay one will shoot on the first relay the first day and the second relay the third day, with the second relay just the opposite. If there happens to be 3 relays this is where things start getting a little tricky and this may not be the final word yet. All shooters will draw their benches before the match and on the first day relay 1 shoots relay one, relay 2 shoots relay 2 and relay 3 shoots relay 3. The second day relay 1 will shoot relay 3 and will not elgible to redraw for benches on the second day. Relay 2 and relay 3 will draw for benches and will either be on relay 1 or relay 2 so depending on what relay is drawn on the first day you may or may not be elgible to draw for a bench on day 2. My understanding is that benches will be drawn for both 600 and 1000 yards seperately with no carry over of bench assignments between the two events.

Hey Expiper
Roger the nbrsa newsletter for december is about 4 months old with its content. It is full of the september board meeting but has nothing on what happened at the 1000 yard nationals in it.The president talks about how mad the shooters were when the regional director moved out of the area so you can just imagine what he is going to say about all the cheating that took place at the nationals in october. But then again?

Long story short the F-Class benchrest was brought up at the meeting and passed so its a one year test period to if it works out.
NRA rules will be followed allowing 22 pound rifles but muzzlebrakes will be allowed due to all the lightguns they expect.

As to the two matches in 5 days and the nbrsa news saying something different Edlongrange sent that question to Lou Murdica and according to Lou the match is on and the nbrsa newsletter is wrong. You would think the nbrsa would have voted on it but following there own rules has never been a priority with that bunch.

In short two matches plus F-Class benchrest in 5 days is what will be done.

The shooters will get to see the benches drawn out in the open and they will draw there own benches. As you know this is monumental and the club actually wants the rule changed so this is a permanent part of any future matches. If it passes I will probaly start shooting again as it will in essence end the cheating.

As to the match fees they will be whatever is allowed but the club is loosing alot of money on this one so some of the normal freebies will most likely not be freebies this year. You guys interested in shooting should contact Lou Murdica or craig to see what they will be charging directly for a better answer.

I am headed to the motor vehicle department right now but will update the fees if I hear about any changes.Rumor has it that Crawford is selling a kidney on E-Bay and will be funding the whole match but so far that is just a rumor.
Lynn

bench rotation

I asume once we draw for our bench assignment....we will rotate every day right along with shooting order....it gives full random shooting times and places on the line...Roger

Bruce
No sheesh required as I mis quoted Gary Nobles early on in this thread.
As to me shooting.
When the president of the nbrsa refunded my membership fees I contacted my attorney concerning everything that took place. The president cannot remove a member only the board of directors can do that and the maximum amount of time is 1 year or they would lose there non-profit status.
If I want to shoot I simply show up and shoot once I rejoin.I am not shooting again until the rules get changed officially because if you wrestle with pigs you end up smelling like a pig.

At that club meeting we were going to hold at the december match the shortrange match director told us we were not voting members and alot of other bull$hit and believe me it was all lies.A gave my attorney a copy of the clubs by-laws and everybody is a voting member as none of the rules governing a non-profit have ever been followed or voted on properly. In short the club would be disbanned and lose there non-profit status. My father and I never filled out an application form showing us non-voting voting or life membership with the fees for each.No annual meetings ever took place, nobody correctly notified all the shooters,no minutes were ever recorded and nobody has ever seen were the money goes all of which are required to maintain ones non-profit status with the state of california.
Yes they could simply re-apply and start all over again and likely would.
I didn't exactly like what the present match director pulled at that december meeting/match and I do know how he became involved with the main club in the first place so he knows very well it was all a huge lie.I guess he thought we all had failing memories on how he got to be on the board of directors in the first place. They even stacked that match with ringers so somebody was on the phone trying to protect themselves from being voted out.I am being extremely nice here as to what took place and who was involved in the december debacle/sham meeting/match.did I mention that match had more shooters than any match other than the nationals hint hint wink wink.
The shooters are what is important here but it sure is fun to see the political wranglings/goings on amongst a small group of guys once somebody gets a little bit of power under his belt buckle.

I wore out my cordless phone twice and never found out anything about bench rotations nor do I remember hearing anything about them.

Lynn, as I read the PVC schedule Bob Hoppe has 2 NBRSA BR matches on the 2011 calendar. The first being a 1000Yd 2 day match in June and a 2 day 600 yd match in July. Hope to se you in June so that you can wave some wood in Kevin's Face.....Carl

Carl
We will most likely be at those matches as Bob Hoppe has everyones full respect and is a great guy to be around.
