Project Rifle New Build 11/3/24

I have just completed building and testing another new build.

This one follows the format I've been using for a while now.

Turbo V-3 action, Muller 8 groove barrel, Flavio Fare 2.1 trigger, Harrel tuner, and Rotex stock.

I tested this rifle by taking it to the IR 50/50 Indoor Nationals. I also tested it at home and felt confident it would compete at the National level.

I only won a single target with it but I'm pretty sure ammo and I were the weak link in the system.

I did shoot some pretty good targets.

Here are some pics.

That’s a beauty. I’m a newby and I can see that.
I’m curious what 1 piece rest you have in the pictures. I’ve looked around and i am trying to decide what to get. I plan to shoot ARBA and ARA Unlimited.

Looks good Tony.
I know you like the Muller 8’s. Do you favor them primarily for indoor matches?

Tim,

I have had very good result outdoors and indoors with the 8 grooves.

I have fitted about 10 of these for different people and they seem to have the same results I have.
It could be Paul is just doing them well but they work.
I have a couple of 4 MIs and I’m going to try a test between the 4’s and 8’s just to see if I can tell a difference.
I plan set them up the same and shoot them from the same rifle back to back a number of times. May not learn much but will not know if I don’t try.

Tony, please share the results of your testing?

Thanks very much,

Larry

Thanks Tony, the one you fit for me looks like it got off to a nice start but I got sidetracked and put it up without too many rounds. I plan to wring it out well come springtime.

Another beautiful fine shooting Rifle Tony.
I have a 8 groove on my Rifle. I’d say it shoots well. I have a 4mi sitting ready to get chambered. I would say my 8 groove with around 3K rounds threw it, it kind of seemed like it was shooting better.

Likewise Tony.
Now I have a rifle with two MIs, one 4 and the other 8. I too, tend to run a comparison between those two MI barrels, but 1st have to tune both.
Keep you posted.

Pedro, how do you intend to test each barrel? Do you intend to shoot groups for comparison, or shoot a target for score as a comparison. I am interested in how you and Tony will do the comparison. I too have a 4MI, 8MI and a Douglas 4 which I need to compare to decide which barrel to use for indoor and next year's outdoor season. Thanks for any details you can share...

Larry

Larry, I will compare both through a full season.
I'll try to use different conditions to better understand which one will allow me to shoot more relaxed.

I'll do groups, but target scoring will be the core data. Also pretend to use them on competition, the true test.
Of course, I only have one of each, so my results could be totally off, but I have to play with what I have.
I will bring with me the needed gear to change them on the range, so during a shooting session, I can use both.
Both will have its dedicated tuner, both will be torque the same way, with the same stock, trigger and scope, and with its best ammo lot.

During practice test I will only shoot the same condition, with the most possible matched wind speed (anemometer to service).
I will choose calm and normal days to test, going up on wind until around 30Km/h.

Unfortunately, we don't have an indoor facility, so...

We'll see.

Pedro,
Hopefully you will wring the 8 out in tough wind condition as well.
As I suspect you already know, there has been, rightly or wrongly, some opinion about their relative performance in wind.
I have simply not had enough time myself with the configuration and would like to see your assessment on the topic down the road.
Thanks,
Tim

I’ve been reading the 8 groove is easier to get a good lap and chamber. its seems to follow that this would result in a better barrel. I hope this is true. I have 4 in various stages of completion.
