Difference in primers

Can someone tell me what the difference between CCI benchrest Large rifle primers and LR Fed 210 primers would be?

When i reload with one or the other what should i expect to change?

I have always used CCI benchrest but now i have to shoot what i can get ahold of.

Im shooting for longrange accuracy. 600+

thanks for any info.

I am sure there will be a bit of a differance. I will NEVER touch anything ATK which makes both CCI and Federal make again.

Have you also asked your question on the 600/1000 yard Benchrest Forum?

A statement like that begs

I am sure there will be a bit of a differance. I will NEVER touch anything ATK which makes both CCI and Federal make again.

that there be an explanation. Especially since Fed 205M and 210M primers are the staples of the BR community. What info do you have that causes such a forceful position?

Dick..

I must admit abintx has a point, there are very few Large Rifle primers used in short range BR, none really. But they are common in the bigger cartridges used in 600/1000.
Dick

what about hunter benchrest? until the advent of the Lapua 6.5x47 case with small primer and some who used the small primer 30 american case for the aardvark virtually all 30 caliber hunter cartridges were large primer cases...300 savage for the 30-44, 308 Win, 308 Win shortened to 30x46 and 47 and others.

Federal VS CCI

CCI can handle preasure better than the Federal. Federal is a little hotter so you may see a small increase in velocity. Unless your shooting a very hot (MAX) load the change should not be a problem. If your on the very top end of the scale for a charge - I would back off a little and test with the Federal and work back up to your max change again to make certain you are not blowing primers.

Ok thats the answer i was looking for. Thank you.

Im on the lower end so i may drop one grain in powder just to be sure it will be ok. then i will work up.

thanks again.

ATK is without a doubt the worst corporation I have ever had any contact with. Thier CEO resigned, they are under multiple investigations and nobody even knows ( including ATF) who the current responsable parties are ( as mandated by Federal Law). If I had to guess I would say there will be a huge "shackup" atleast some of my friends beleive they will not make it.

this is from the 6mmbr site
seems to differ from your information, you mention wolf primers as stepping up production to take care of demand while the american company has a personal vendeta against you, it has been stated that wolf primers were premade from years ago and the current shortages just gave them the oprotunity to sell out inventory I don't believe it had anything to do with "taking care of the consumer" but hey go ahead and wage your war and keep thrashing an american industry that works 24hrs a day 7 days a week trying to meet demand, thats your right as a American.

ATK (Alliant Techsystems) (NYSE: ATK), the world’s largest ammo producer, manufactures CCI, Federal, and Speer ammo, plus CCI and Federal primers. ATK is also the parent company of Alliant Powder and ATK runs the Lake City Army ammunition plant. That’s why changes at ATK can affect shooters nationwide.

ATK announced that after more than six years as ATK chairman and CEO, Daniel J. Murphy will retire in March, 2010. The company’s board of directors has appointed General Ronald R. Fogleman to serve as Chairman of the board of directors. The board also elected John L. Shroyer, ATK’s current chief financial officer (CFO), to serve as interim CEO. The appointments are effective immediately.

In related news, ATK announced that second-quarter profit rose 18 percent, helped by stronger sales of ammunition for security forces in Afghanistan. The company said that demand remained strong for ATK’s commercial ammunition brands and products. “I am particularly pleased with the growth of our commercial businesses both in ammunition, aircraft structures and elsewhere across the company,” said John Shroyer, interim CEO, senior vice president and CFO.
