PPC Re-Chambering Question

I have a barrel chambered in PPC + .050" with a .263" neck.
I would like to re-chamber it in standard PPC (not + .050")
My problem is that my reamer is .262" neck.
If I cut the extra .050" off of the chamber end and run my .262" reamer in it, the majority of the neck will be .263" and the last .050" of the neck will be .262".

That means .0005" per side as far as the neck thickness on the brass is concerned.

Will this be a problem?
Will I ever notice it when chambering a round?

Thanks

I would set it back enough to get a clean .262" nk all the way. Not that much more, since you're already doing a set-back.

Joe, are you wanting a PPC chamber with no freebore? All the major reamer designs have some amount of freebore length.

A few are trying to use zero freebore for the socalled 00 nose bullets but with most 6 PPC bullets that have 7 ogive through 10 ogive noses require some freebore length.

As to 262 vs 263 neck diameter you will never know the difference. Use a small hole gage and see what you actually have now. It may surprise you.

Jerry, I may be wrong, but I took the post to read he has a PPC chamber +.050", meaning the shoulder is blown forward .050". If that is the case, he needs to set back the barrel to use a standard PPC.

There was a couple guys in MD that used the PPC +.050" with a good amount of success. Is there a big advantage to it over a PPC? Who knows.

Wayne, you may be correct. I could see an advantage of the cartridge like you describe in the 600 yard game. At 600 I shoot a 40 degree shoulder PPC with the neck/shoulder intersection 0.035" forward of the conventional PPC neck shoulder intersection. It holds 2.5 grains more powder than a regular 6 PPC and will easily hold 30 grains of Varget with a Berger 90BT.
