PPC Brass

Why dosen't someone make preformed PPC cases? Somewhere I recall seeing 22 PPC brass. You've got to fire form one way or another. I've considered having a walking varminter built on the round, but I don't want to fool with forming brass. Call me lazy.

They make it

Have your rifle chambered for 6 or 22 USA. Norma loads it for around 2 to 3 dollars per round.

Silver State Armory makes 6ppc brass ready to load and shoot...I don't know if anyone offers 22ppc brass ready to load and shoot...

Both SAKO and NORMA make 22PPC and 6PPC brass. Huntington used to carry both. Probably still does. I think the Silver State brass is the PPC Classic? Not as good as the Scandinavian stuff.

You might ask around for brass that Benchrest shooters have relegated to the scrap bucket. It's not BR quality anymore but is good enough for varmints. That's what a lot of guys do. When you see a shooter with his head inside the garbage can at the range, he is probably scrounging for brass. Or looking for lunch.

ppc brass

As previousely noted, Norma and Sako both sell pre-formed and properly headstamped brass cases for reloading, 22 & 6ppc. Cabela's sometimes have it available.

Here's an idea for a lazy fella. Shoot the PPC PARENT CASE.

Call Dave Kiff at http://www.pacifictoolandgauge.com/.

Have him make you up a reamer for a Tight Neck [.001" clearance on each side], No-turn neck, for the 220 Russian.

Then, order some Lapua 220 Russian Brass from Bruno's http://www.brunoshooters.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=BSS, load'em and shoot. No muss, No fuss !!! ;)

I haven't ever known a piece of brass that didn't need fireformed first. There is no such thing as "buy and it's ready brass".

For shooting live varmints I certainly would not want to use up a big part of my barrel life by fireforming brass. They (the varmints) will never know the difference.;)

Ray,

I understand that...and agree. I just believe it makes a very good arguement for a fireforming barrel. Heck, you can shoot varmits during fireforming a PPC from a 220 russian. You give up a little velocity and accuracy...but isn't that the same either way? If you using a .223/5.56, you can generally buy mil surplus and then size it down to fit your chamber but for about everything else....back to square one.

It is generally quite hard to hit any small varmit past 300yds with non-formed brass.

With all the variations in the PPC chambers why would anyone make one for every chamber? Wouldn't it still require the same amount of work?

I've purchased Sako 6PPC-USA direct through Beretta USA. The necks are a little thinner than Lapua 220 Russian, and as I hear it's not as good, but I'm pretty sure my factory Sako 75 varminter can't tell the difference.
