Possible long range rifle

I've been interested in Palma and F class matches for a few years now, but was unsure how much it might cost to get started.

Earlier this week I glommed this Winchester 70 .308 rifle at an on-line auction.

Comes with a Hart barrel and OK Weber sights. I've obviously heard good things about Hart barrels, but does anyone know anything about OK Weber sights?

How so? Is the caliber (.308) not competitive? The lack of a scope?

I say that, maybe a new barrel, stock, trigger, and a stock minimum. You will also need a Scope.

Buying this was somewhat of an act of faith, because of the single picture and sparse description. I wish I knew how long the barrel was and what the twist rate is.

I got it for just under $750 and thought it was worth the risk.

What barrel length would be ideal for F class?

Got some good news from a poster on another Forum (Long Range Target Shooting). He was actually at the auction that I won this rifle at (I was bidding on line). He stated that all the rifle were in excellent shape.

Also advised that he had gotten two target rifles and that both came with logs...one had 300 rounds through it and the other 30. Apparently the prior owner, who is deceased, was a long time Camp Perry shooter and had lost his sight about 12 years ago. That sure seems sad.

.308 guys where I shoot all using 32 to 34"

When you get this rifle shoot it. If after developing your .308 hand loads, the rifle shoots five into 1/2 inch or less at 100yds, it will be competitive. Good luck...virg.
