I am sorry to say that Lones Wigger passed away last night , I always enjoyed visits with him. He will be missed and his contributions and accomplishments are second to none.....R.I.P.
I met Lones in Johnson City, Tennessee. He was far out of his league in that particular game but he took it like a champ. Said he learned something that he didn't know. Really nice fellow that Lones Wigger!
Wibur, Funny last time I had seen him was the A.R.A. nat's maybe a year or two ago. He was struggling and I remarked it was different from a bench. Asked if they maybe got rid of those pesky bench rules or if they let him shoot off hand every one would be in trouble. He just smiled and said "maybe that would help"
I was fortunate enough to talk to Lones on a number of occasions & he was always soft spoken but very informative. He told me about Federal dumping their "dimpled" rimfire match ammo in Europe. (all of it). Hell, they didn't know how to market the stuff anyway. Lones was amazed at how good outdoor Benchrest shooters were at reading the wind. He did finish 'in the money" a time or two in the early years of IR50-50 Nationals. This is really a great loss for all competitive shooters !!
