Old BR Rifle Question

Dave, the very first BR style Rifle I shot was chambered for 6BR using Remington Brass. This was in about 1993.
The neck thickness averaged about .013 to .014 inch.The chamber had a .274 neck. I bought the rifle at a gun show with a couple of boxes of Remington 6BR brass.

That Remington Brass varied as much as a full thousandth and a half as you measured the thickness in different spots.

When Lapua came out with their 6BR brass around that same time, even with the necks turned to that thickness, it would not chamber because of the slightly larger web diameter.

I don’t know what the original Norma measured.

Dave, I have some NOS Remington 6BR brass in the factory boxes.

-The necks measure .014
-At .200 ahead of the extractor groove, it's .4694-ish (depends how I hold my tongue ;)).

Al, I have 2 cases of new Remington 6BR brass and the necks vary from .012-.013 with my Mitutoyo ball mic and the diameter just above the extractor groove is .4643. Mine are the 6mmBR brass catalog number 2270.

Hi Butch. It's crazy how much that stuff varies, isn't it? The guys back then trying to get those BR's to shoot must have been pulling their hair out at times.

I've got some Remington head stamped 22BR, also. Will mic those for grins. -Al

My Lapua measures .013 and I turn to .0125 Don't have measurement right here for the base. Here's a pic of the rifle. I rotated the attachment but it still changed it when I posted.
