Just wondering if you fellas think there is any advantage In having an offset stock/forearm on a ppc rig? Light Varmint with a 14 twist and 68gr bullets. Is there enough torque to make a difference? I'm specing out my stock for next season's rifle. Bob scoville will be building the stock. I haven't ever had a stock with an offset forearm so I don't have any opinion. Thanks lee

I wouldn't do it. There isn't that much torque with a 6mm. Even the advocates -- started by Scott Fletcher -- limit it to big 30 magnums, going on up to .338s.

Dave Tooley was Sott's co-conspiritor on the stock, and has moved away from it, at least on the big .30s. In short, there are compromises, and with the minimum torque of a 6mm PPC -- or even a 6mm/06 -- you get all the bad & almost no good.

For a different idea, you might ask Mr. Scoville how he feels about the barrel-blocked stocks he made. The plus here is it isn't action specific. If you decide to change actions, at least within a certain region like rounds to rounds, or squares to squares, you don't need another stock. If Mr. Scoville sees no real downside to them, I'd certainly consider that, esp. given your propensity (which I share) to change actions from time to time.

I have thought about the barrel block system quite a bit. I think I'll give Bob a call back tomorrow. I am going to have the removable keels made though. One for lv and then a second one made flat or parallel for sporter class. Not sure there is much to gain but we will see. Thanks lee

Hey bud. Larry Scarnhorst swears by them. He believes the bedding begins to fail and with a Barrel block stock this is not an issue. I see something there to believe in. Larry is very competitive. Mine as you know, I couldn't hardly give it away. I finally shot it and won the HV at Firewalker so they must work o.k. Mine is off set and I honestly don't know if it makes a difference. I don't think it hurts for sure. Mine is very comfortable to shoot. Dedicated HV. I guess I'm glad I kept it. I think the heal idea for the new sporter rules is a good idea. Definitely could help you rule out any vertical with your shooting vs. load. Kinda like a light unlimited ya know. I know mine has a Farley action but it would work with a Bat, Pierce, Borden, Defiance, any 1.35 round action. I am glad it doesn't have the front weight provision. See if you can get Bob to make me a stock before Cactus
