Number of grooves/lands?

Hey guys, first post.
Does the number of grooves/lands make a difference to accuracy?
I have a Kimber 8400 in 300WinMag that is more accurate to 300yds than my dedicated Rem 700 VSSFII in 300WinMag, even though the Kimber is a 'sporter' barrel of 26".
The Rem has a 28" Kreiger S/S barrel, it is more accurate at longer ranges, 300yds to 600yds, with 6 grooves and the Kimber is 4 grooves, do you think this is where the accuracy difference lies?

I would certainly think that the twist difference between the two barrels might be the difference. Just a guess. Are the two barrels the same twist? As Butch says, # of grooves shouldn't be a factor, everything else being equal.
 
Twist is the same in both: 1:10", I do have a barrel that has a 1:13" twist but it was never accurate enough.

Many years ago I entered some rifle competitions where the field of shooters included some shooting 4 groove and also 2 groove Springfield '06 barrels. These were informal benchrest shoots, such as "turkey shoots."

The popular wisdom among the "old boys" was that the four groove would be more accurate.

In actual shooting, this was far from clear. Some of the two-groove shot very accurately. Hard to call.

So . . . don't jump to conclusions on 2- vs. 4-groove.
