Nosler Brass?

Does anyone have any experience with Nosler Brass? It is supposed to be trimmed, champhered, flash holes deburred, and sorted by weight. Are the necks any thicker than the Remington, Winchester brass, etc.? Any information is appreciated.
 
Only brass I use in the 204 Ruger because its the best brass you can get for it. Everything else I shoot uses Lapua.

If you quote a specific cartridge someone will have a better opinion.:D
 
I've played around with quite a few different calibers. It does have the advertised "extras" but the flasholes aren't totally deburred. They could use a bit better tool for this.

Nosler brass is soft. As soft as Remington or softer. It also has different dimensions internally than most other American brass. Neck wall thickness varies depending on caliber. Neck wall consistency is on par with Remington.

Primer pockets are generally shallow and need to be uniformed.

Worth the extra money? Depends.
 
Nosler 300 Win Mag Brass

Two years ago I bought a box of the Nosler Premium brass from MidwayUSA.

The necks had all kinds of varience in the necks.

I called Nosler an they said they knew they had problems but refused to replace it.

Yes their brass in my opinion sucks.

You're right, I should have stated this earlier. My application is for a 7 MM Remington Mag that is currently being rebarreled. Norma makes brass for the 7 mag and is my favorite. The necks are thicker and the cases are more consistent than the Remington and Winchester brass. My pet load was 63 gr. of IMR 4350 behind a 150 gr. Nosler BT bullet in the Shilen 1:9 twist, 24" chrome moly barrel. This load would stretch the Norma primer pockets after a couple of firings however, I found that if I went to the trouble of fireforming the cases with a reduced load they would last a bit longer. Would the cream of wheat fire forming method would work for the larger calibers like the 7 mag?

Well I quess I have had good luck for once. Three seperate lots of Nosler 204R over the last four years. All measurments are very consistent in those three lots. Primer pockets are deburred and done well. Neck wall variations run around .001" which is equal to most Lapua.
I run the necks through a sizer to loosen em up a little. 11 degree VLD chamfer and shoot em.

I sure can't blame Nat for being ticked. With the extra money spent quality should not be an issue. Lousy customer service just should'nt happen when spending premium money on a supposedly premium product.

COW is for radical fireforming. Changing one type of brass into another like 220 Russian to 6ppc.
No need to go through those troubles with brass thats already designed for the chamber.

Totally agree. I tried Nosler with my 22-250AI a few years back. I was pushing them pretty hard and after 4 firings, the primer pockets really losened up. Winny brass worked much better. When the new Lapua 22-250 gets here I will pull the 22-250AI barrel back out and see what else it can do. An 22 cal 80 gr SMK at 3400-3500 fps is a wonderful thing ballistically :):) Not so good on barrels :p:p

Ditto on what Rustystud said, maine was 7STW, once fired at Nosler website starting load,,,,,,,, got ready to load agan and could seat primers with my hand,, sent them back along with 8 -10 unfired pieces,,,,,,,,, they blamed me and everything else but never said it was annealed wrong, they replaced the brass and I gave it away unopened,,,,,,,, IMHO in order: Lapua, Norma, then any of the following in any order FC, WW, R-P, LC, PMC,

Nosler

The only Nosler brass I have had contact with is the 280 Ackley Improved. A friend bought some, we are getting a Reamer ground to do his barrel.

The brass measures very good, in fact, I could pick up only about .0005 difference in neck wall thickness on any of them. The rest of the case looks equaly top of the line.

I have been told that RWS makes it for Nosler.........jackie
 
Norma's flyer had Nosler as a headstamp.

Handloader Journal mentioned it was made by Federal. They did a big .308 Win article and Nosler was best out of box, but wore out the quickest. I think they got over 20 loads out of it with no annealing and always f/l sizing.

I use it in .22-250 and now .223. Price is right around $28/50 for .223. I think I paid about the same for the .22-250.
