node/accuracy question

I would appreciate your input on this topic as it applies to shorter barrels (15-18 inches).
My question is the accuracy node(s) based on velocity or on pressure (both???)?
I have several 6.5-284's and one 6mm-284 in specialty handguns and I am constantly looking for ways to understand and improve when shooting 1k and beyond.

I usually hear the nodes being based on velocity, but is that all?

Thanks for your thought on this.
Sometimes I am not even sure if I know the right questions, little alone the answers.

There is an article in precision shooting magazine March 2005 volume 52- #11 by Bill Calfe titled " I'm feeling those good vibrations" you can get to it online also, one in Varmint Als web page under "barrel harmonics movie".
Both good stuff to read.
good luck

its a blast

HI,, XP...about a hundred yrs ago I used to tinker with pistols...((not 45acp)) and found the best results with powders "faster" than most civilized folks (and reloading manuals) reccomend....I never had a 6.5-284...butt ...did shoot a 7/08 and 308 somewhat....
You will get the most velocity with the usual powders but there will be a huge fireball at the muzzle ...which is muzzle pressure...which is BAD JU JU for accuracy...the volcity is there-but the accuracy is not...you make the choice....a break helps tremendously....it will settle down the most cantankerous of the rip-snortin pistols....(hint ) ...
in the the 7mm-08 i used a propietary blend of 4895 and 4198 and got near the same vel. with outstanding accuracy....(disclimer-blend at your own risk)...hope this helps....Roger
PS..haha....almost forgot about the node part of the ??...I think it is always about pressure....and velocity is just coincidental.....you always hear the benchrest purists say it is 3xxx fps ....with a ppc and 133 ...well they usually are using a 22 3/4 in bbl....and guess what ...at 3xxxfps and 3x.x grains of 133 you have a magical pressure node!!!!
so the answer is yes ....it is at a pressure that the powder burns completely and with no spikes ...and with a bbl x inches long you get xxxx fps......IMHO
