Nightforce Scope Controls

This past year I purchased 3 Nightforce Bench Rest and one Nightforce Competition scopes. All of them have a third protrusion from the center of the scope. Elevation and Windage Control in each, plus Side Parallax on the Competition. On the bench rest scopes the third protrusion is a small knob, angled down about 45 degrees. What is that ? It is not covered in the manual?

Thanks, Bob

Hey Boyd,

That control I know. I am not talking about the Illumination control, which is back on top by the eye piece. See the attachment. I am talking about the small protrusion that angles down on the left. Not covered in the manual, though the larger one on my Competition model goes straight out that side, is the windage parallax control and is a knob the size of the elevation and windage knobs.

Sorry about that. Jumped to quick. Many scopes have one or two leaf springs to push the erector tube against the turret feet ( that function like jacking screws) In some cases a coil spring is used instead, probably because the designer determined that it would do a better job in that application. In some cases these have been retrofitted to improve tracking, along with other modifications. If you scroll down a bit in this thread you will see a lot of pictures that should be helpful.

Boyd, on the NF. BR they use both leaf and the coil spring in the angled housing. That is one of the reasons they are so good but the weight is the killer at 36 oz. The short eye relief is an other issue with free recoil, that is the reason for the rubber on the back......... Jim

Fortunately this NF BR scope is on my 1,000 LBR Gun, which I am able to make both the 1,000 yard 17 pound light gun and the Williamsport 16.5 pound Like Gun limits with. Hope I do not have these kind of issues with the Fixed 36x Sightron that Bob White put on my new 6PPC Rifle. I have a 15x55 Competition on my Tactical Rifle, that I could put on it while it goes back to NF.
