Well, I'll start by saying I've never shot a Benchrest match in my life. I have been an avid varmint hunter for a very long time, but I have allways had an interest in the sport of competitive shooting, getting up in years now and I think I might like to give it a try. What I do not want to do is spend a small fortune on equipment(until I decide I want to do this as a serious hobby). If I come to one of the club matches, I want to be as prepared as I can. I have read a lot on this site in the last 6 mo. or so and seems to be a good group of people, willing to help. So could some of the Denton shooters chime in and point me in the right direction?
Here is what I DO have:
I have several rifles that shoot very well. I would probably shoot my Tikka T3 varmint in .308win. that I have developed a load for that is quite accurate.
I have a Sinclair front rest with a windage top.and a Protektor rear bag that I bought at Cabela's.
I have a 36x B&L scope I got from somewhere years ago that I could mount on the Tikka. That's about it.
Would this suffice for my first experience?
Is there someone at the matches to direct newcomers to the sport?
Any input would be welcomed.
Thank you!
