I need some info on what a good combo is for a new 700, 308,
1-12 twist as to reloading, Just broke the barrel in this morning using
Feds 150 gr and it did not do all that well, But I was breaking it in.
Barrel is the mid range barrel not the heavy bull. Need powder and what grain bullet I might try.

175gr Bergers with somewhere between 43 and 45 grains of Varget works well in almost any 308. You did not state the purpose, whether target shooting or hunting but the Berger should serve either well. The 175 Berger VLD is a deer killing machine.:D

.308

i would add. my experience with the 308 is they are easy to get a good load( second only to the .222) . any of 165-168's; plus the 175's; any of these 5 powders- varget, H/I 4895 , I4064, re-15. lapua brass .

They are all different in their preferences, but there are some rounds that tend to work well in a number of rifles. Do you handload? What is your intended purpose? For factory ammo it is hard to beat FGGM for accuracy. Where are you located in SC?

Oops, read your post a little closer. I see you handload. As was said it is hard to beat, Varget, RL-15, and 4895 with the 168's and 175's.

1 in 12 twist

with a 1 in 12 twist any bullet up to and including 180 grain should do fine depending on what you want to do with it. you will just have to find what bullet powder combo your rifle likes.

168's

I've had excellent results with 168smk's and 168amax's over Varget. They aren't as finicky about seating depth as are my 135 grain bullets either. On the down side there is a bit more recoil....

I really like Nosler 150 BTs and RL 15. Start at about 42.0 gr and work up in Lapua brass. I settled around 46.0 gr.

Sierra 168 gr HPBT Match, IMR 4064, Lapua Brass, Federal Match Primers, & the brass tailored to benchrest standards, gets me the best groups from my PSS.....
