I want to build a 6br benchrest gun. I will use it mainly just to shoot for fun but also for some F-Open or hopefully a benchrest match or two. I want to build a heavy gun. I was wanting to get some specs on what you would recommend. What is the name that Mcmillan stock that most 600 to 1000 benchrest guns are built on? Also, what action would you recommend without me breaking the bank. I was thinking a stiller predator or working off a SS Rem 700. Also, what size Kreiger barrel would I need to order. I want to get a BIG heavy barrel like a straight 1.25 tube or 1.45 tube.

I am not ready to order any parts but if I can come up with a list of parts to buy I can start looking and hopefully find some deals on the internet. I am in no hurry. I figure by the time I save up for the parts and get it all ordered it will be this time next year before I receive all the parts. I am just going to order one piece at a time until I get it all together. That way it is easier on my pocket book.

If you got any good ideas or recommendation let me know. Thanks for your help!

Go to 6mmBR.com and click on GunsOfTheWeek. There are over 90 examples with lots of info of BR guns people are currently using and winning with. Many also give loading and case prep info. A very useful source.

By heavygun do you mean a 17 pound lightgun or a 70 pound heavygun? In F-Class I think there weight limit is 22 pounds and I hope somebody corrects this if I'm wrong.
On the stock it depends on trhe weight you decide on.
If the weight limit is 17 pounds the McMillan stock would be a MBR.
If the weight limit is unlimited it would be the 50 HBR.
Again the same thing applies to the barrel size.If your weight is 17 pounds 1.250 is about as big as you'll find.If your weight is unlimited 1.450 would be the normal size.
If your looking at gun that fits everything build a 16.5 pound Pennsylvania gun and you can shoot it in everything you have mentioned.
A Remington 700 with a 28 inch max heavy varmint taper barrel in a MBR stock is a nice set-up.

Thanks fellas... So far this is what I am thinking about building. Any options, upgrades, likes, or dislikes?

McMillan Tooley MBR
Kreiger 1.25 straight 6mm blank finished at 30 inch with 7.5 twist (might flute)
BAT SV RB RP
Jewel BR trigger (i think it will fit a BAT)

I am not real sure on weight. I would shoot F-open some and maybe a benchrest match or two. I don't know the weight limit on the matches. Mainly just to have a highly accurate gun. I know wind moves the 6br a good bit at 600 and 1000 yards but when wind is none existent it should stack em in there.

I am probably way wrong on this but i was thinking that the straight 1.250 would be to heavy on the small BAT action. Seems like i heard someone talking about that one time. BAT is definitely the way to go, but if your on a budget i would look at Lawton. You can get a dual port 7500 for around 775. Nice actions. Not real fancy but they are pretty smooth and straight. Thanks for the info. I will have to check into that. I have never owned a BAT so I am not sure if that barrel would be too heavy or not. I did take a look at lawton actions. Took me a while to find there new website. I can't seem to find the price you quoted... Maybe I need to call them. They have $895 as a base price on the 7500 lawton. Looks like a great action. Was it Lawton that the bolt handles would rust? Or has this problem been solved?

If I was going to spend $900 on a action I would go the extra few dollars and get a Stiller Diamondback,Predator or BAT SV or Borden BRM and cut the barrels length back to 28 inches if you go 1.250 straight cylinder.Myself I would use a Max Heavy Varmint Taper or 1,000 yard taper 28-30 inch blank and let the gunsmith finish it were he wants to.
I don't shoot F-Class but if your going for a multi-purpose rifle Tooley MBR or Shehane MBR would be my choice for the stock.
