N133 problem?

I have used about a pound and a half of a 2 lb new container of Vihyavuori N133 when my drop tube clogged shut.......about 15 pieces of what appears to be .004" dia .250" long brass wire. Very soft......After dumping the twenty already loaded rnds, found another dozen or so pieces.

Anybody experience this before? What problems would this present if fired, to the bore? I would think the heat and pressure would burn it or blow it from the barrel...........
Looking through a half pound of powder with a magnifier is not what I call a fun afternoon. I do not own a bore scope and the gun/load shoots very well.

Hey Barry,

Who's powder measure do you have? You might try taking it apart to look for wear marks.

Would you please share the lot number and other details off of the container ??

Pour what's left of your powder into something like a pizza pan to determine if the contamination originated in the bottle or later in your process.. I expect that due to the difference in physical properties between powder kernels and the brass particles that it would be easy to separate the two by brushing/rolling them apart on a flat surface such as the pan. If the brass particles are in the bottle, I doubt the mfg could utilize anything more than the lot number and a sample of the contaminant. Shipping a small amount of powder is a pita and probably wouldn't help.

The Vihtavuori N 133, 2 lb., 94605(first line),02876(second line), purchased October 2006, not sure who it was purchased from, but it was unopened. Checked the last of the powder, about a 1/4 lb., found another 25 pieces, all the same size. The last was not from the powder measure, a RCBS, but right from the original container.
I will never know how much went down the barrel..............and this is the last of that lot.

Barry,

Thank you for the lot number information. From what I understand of the VihtaVuori numbering scheme, this is lot number 946 from the year 2005. The second line is a sequential package number. I would have expected a third line that would indicate the date of packaging in the format DD.MM.YYYY.

I too have had some "problems" with 133. Off and on no way to tell. I have swithched to Benchmark. I am having a bit of a problem in finding just what the barrel/bullet likes, but when you do......man it shoots lights out.. So far 29.5 to 30.2 seems to be right in the node. Just got to fiddle a bit. Gives about 3320fps.

Any substance heavier and smaller than the powder would migrate to the bottom of the powder container. You may hve not poured any out in the first portions used from the container or you may have used some??
