More adventures in Paradise:

Last Wednesday, She Who Must Be Obeyed and I flew over to Maui to celebrate my 70th birthday, which was yesterday. We took Wednesday to recover from the lost hours ( actually, it took a couple more days) and Thursday we drove the road to Hana. For those who haven't done the trip, it is like no other I have experienced. Perhaps an average of 7 or 8 MPH the entire trip but a beautiful one. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to draw a Genesis out of the "motor Pool" so we had relative comfort, automobile -wise.

Saturday we drove up the volcano to the National Park. It was cloudy most of the time so we didn't see much in the way of vistas. Nice trip, all the same, nice area to live in along the way up there, 70* or so during the day.

Yesterday we went to Lahaina for the bulk of the day, culminating in a Birthday Dinner at Mick Fleetwood's Upstairs Restaurant and on the roof to watch yet another spectacular sunset. (sunsets here on Maui are quite something:). Grand time and had Happy Birthday played on the Bag Pipes by a Scotsman who is the beginning of the evening's entertainment; lot of fun. Today, we are visiting several smaller sites of interest. Tomorrow we go to Molokai for a Damien Tour, of sorts. It's not easy to do the real tour, like we thought it would be.

More Later,

Pete

Been dare, done dat

cheapest tour on the OHAU....the public bus...two route to look for.
one goes around the island clock wise, the other...counter clock wise.
i think you have a 4 hour window..where you can get off and back on the next....

how long ago...it was 50 cents....

I have visited Oahu 4 times and have done the circle tour at least twiste. Besides, we are spendin Nursing Home Money here so what the hey :). We did the Big Island last year and now we have about done these two. Molokai is very "Country" and is nice but I didn't leave anything there I need to go back for. We like this island (Maui) though and might consider coming back sometime. Of course Tahiti is yet to be viewed by us - - -. I keep thinking about the Eagles song "Paradise". We could leave it all behind and sail to Lahaina, like those old Missionaries did many years ago---. Some rich men came and raped the land; nobody cought em. Put up a bunch of ugly boxes and "certain" people bought em -- some of that here, for sure. When you call some place Paradise, kiss it goodbye - - -, all too true. The tour driver today talked the same thing all day. Molokai doesn't want the ugly boxes or big boxes, for that matter. No Windmills either! Good for them I say. They have a way of life they like and want to keep it.
