Montana State Shoot (UPDATE)

I am getting my ducks all in a row to invade the state of Montana. I think there are 3-4 of us looking at making the trip down.

Just a few questions.

Anything unusual required in regards to flag pole lengths?

How about pics of the range?

Lastly the closest place to stay?

I am pretty sure there will be a bottle of 40 Creek Whiskey in the tickle trunk somewhere......... ;^)

The Montana State LV/HV shoot is going to be held at the Yellowstone Rifle Club 7212 Molt Rd, Billings Montana June 25-26, 2011. It is located from what I can tell from Google Earth maybe 5 minutes west of town.

Look forward to a new place to shoot.

Barring unforseen circumstances I will be travelling down with Doug Seib from Regina.

Thanks Lawrence. I just got off the phone with Russ Cree. Everything he told me is as up on the website. The other thing he mentioned is there will be items for lunch, drink, water, coffee etc. Looking forward to it.

Uhh, that link mentions match fees are only "Fitty Bucks". However, since they are for 2004, how much is the Time Machine charge to go back and shoot them??
Also, are there any restrictions as far as Homeland Security letting you in the machine with guns AND ammo?

(Boy!! I'd love to hijack THAT sucker!!)

Brian you are right on what you read. I need to look closer at dates.

I talked with Russ Cree the match Director, this is what I can tell for certain.

Practice Friday June 24 starting about noon.
Saturday June 25 shooting will begin at 9AM. LV 100 in the AM followed by LV 200 in the PM.
Sunday June 26 shooting begins at 8AM. HV 200 in the AM followed by HV 100 in the PM.

Cost is 15.00 per class or 60.00 for the weekend. The match is a Sanctioned NBRSA Match so NBRSA membership is required. Russ informs me there is lots of room for loading, cleaning and lots of tables available.

There will also be food and beverage available for lunch. Coffee, pop, water.

There is room to camp or bunk out on site. There is an outhouse along with running water. Indoor toilet and shower, stove etc. I think that covers it.

Thanks....It's on there if you go to the home page and click on the calendar.

Hey, Mr. Hanson, I was only..................

playing around to give everyone a chuckle, when I saw the year, I thought, "Well, here's TOO good an opportunity to let go to waste"; and I knew someone would eventually tell the webmaster to get up to date. :D ;)

I wish I could come out, it sounds like a great time.

David your post was not out of date. The match is up and coming for the end of June 2011.

Anyways thanks for the info.

The Montana State Championships has come and gone. All I can say is what a GREAT TIME I had. Jeff W and myself were the lone shooters from north of that horizontal line. I fell in love with Yellowstone Rifle Club. It is a picturesque place to shoot as well as challenging. The openness of the home club shooters made it that much better. They were more than willing to share some of the secrets of the range. We had many many laughs. More against the Canadians than the Americans. Heck Jeff even taught Roger how to count in Canadian. One Eh...... Two Eh...... Three Eh....... It was great to feel like I was at home amongst this great group of guys. I have always felt at home in the Northern US. I MOST DEFINATELY will be back.

Russ Cree, with the assistance of some of his family members and Audrey Brown (NBRSA Office Manager) who scored the match, ran a great show. Everything ran smoothly. The weather pretty much cooperated. We had one brief thunder shower Sunday afternoon but conditions pretty much returned to the same as it had been all weekend. Tricky at times, okay usually, with the brief and I mean brief honey hole conditions.

The clubhouse accomodations were pretty good. I even had a chance to do some load development in there indoor shooting facility in the evenings................ Okay not....... ;=). The indoor range was the perfect place to call home for 3 nights. It was even better with the fully equipped kitchen facilities and washroom minus the shower.

Anyways I just want to say that if anyone is ever looking for a fun time and great shoot, I would fit Yellowstone Rifle Club in. Keep in mind the Montana State for 2012. I most definately am.

I did learn a few things, I will never ever trust my 100 yard load development without testing at 200. The other is that I most definately have 1 rifle that shoots better than the other...................... It showed in the results Sunday. Going from dead last Saturday to as high as fourth at one time Sunday only to see it slip away with a bad and I mean bad last group. Why could the conditions not have been the same as when I shot my first group a .141............. All part of the game I guess.

Oh and thanks to Rob Seelye for making my pants pockets a bit heavier ($$$$$$) and taking the time and effort to learn how to pronounce my last name............... until next time Rob. Paul Holland it was a pleasure to meet and camp out with you at the range. Sorry I did not spend more time in the BS department. Yes I do tend to work to hard at this game trying to get better.

Some snapshots of Yellowstone.

2 GUN RESULTS

Thanks for the great time guys. Hope to see you next year.

I hear Jeff had trouble getting into the States! Sounds like he got an anti gun lady on the U.S. side and she wanted an invite from the club. Said the invite from NBRSA for the whole year wasn't good enough. I am heading to Tacoma for their shoot next weekend - hope she has the long weekend off. ATF requires the invite to issue the form 6 and stamps the invitation as part of the process to allow a non citizen to enter U.S with a firearm, so think she was trying to make her own rules. Must have been a summer student who became inflated with the uniform!!!!

How in the hell did Mel Klasi and Terry Hettich sneak across the border from So. Dak...where was the Border Patrol!!! For Krise Sake, if they hooked up with Stan Hill there wouldn'a been any booze left in Montana. Hey Schuppe and Seelye, didn't you check ID's? Hope you locked up the women and closed the saloons until they left. What a PR disaster for Montana. Be more careful next time you guys there's reputations at stake here.

Did any dogs turn up pregnant? Terry's Lab takes after Terry in the vulgarest ways!

That is why I carry a personal invitation from each club I am going to. Learned that lesson a lot of years ago. That blanket invitation, which was set up by Don Creach, gets you your ATF form but if Customs wants a personal invitation, you had better have one. It is very simple just E-Mail the match director to send you one by E-Mail. I belong to Holton and WWCCA and look after both, if required, re personal invites. She was not making her own rules, summer student? probably. You have to remember (2 Departments) ATF, and Customs.

I've got mine for Tacoma and car is loaded. Just sweet talking the wife into getting up at 4 tomorrow morning to hit the road at daylight. She is taking quite a bit of time answering me though!!!
