im looking to pick up a rem action to build a entry level HCBR or short/midrange bench gun, i can pickup a used rem 770 in .308 for $275 bucks, pretty much im thinking about buying it for the action and ditching the rest, BUT my big question do the model 770's use the 700 action or are they different in any way?

If i am not mistaken, they are NOT the same. The 700 is a threaded action and the 770 is pressed and pinned in (barrel). Get a 700 and leave the 770 for some one else.

thanks

thats what i was worried about, what are your thoughts on the old 721's?

About the only difference between the 721/722 and the 700's are the bolt handle (not curved back on the 721/722), bottom metal, and a few other minor things that don't effect function. The 721 is a long action, and the 722 is a short action.

dont waste time thinking about a 770/710, its a pice of crap remington should be ashamed to have put their name on. the 770, and 700 are entirely different actions, one is decent, and one is junk.
