Message from Beau to Dennis

Hello,
Bill does not do PM's so he wanted me to send this message to you:

Friend Dennis:

I see that you, (Wilbur,) have opened my Stopped Muzzle thread to anyone...

Dennis, please tell friend Wilbur that I am honored that he allowed me to be free to post, my thoughts, on his fine forum...without all the disruptions that go with a public forum...

I did this for all the fine folks, who look at BRC, who never post anything, but want knowledge...........

Now Friend Wilbur has decided to allow anyone to post.....and I understand why.......he gave me something he didn't give anyone else.......

Dennis.....thank Wilbur again for allowing me to help a bunch of folks....

I'll stay away from the "Stopped Muzzle" thread........it now belongs to the folks at BRC....and thank Wilbur again...

Your friend, Bill Calfee

Wilbur does not do PM's either so I am posting it here.

Dennis

I am sure the few posters that posted will soon be deleted and you can continue to share your thoughts with us without interuption.
It is my belief that anybody can post on that thread but once they do the Supermoderators and Wilbur remove it? It only lasts a short perid of time usually as there are plenty of Supermoderators to cover the day.

Wilbur
It would be great if you could continue the biggest thread ever without interruption.I realise it is winter and that for most of the country this means no shooting and habitually poor posts.I promise I will TRY and be nice to the Supermoderators if you grant this request.

Lynn....

Lynn, I think you must have missed Wilburs post. He opened Bills thread to everyone.

Lynn,

Wilbur has allowed quite a few of us to "Super Moderate", whatever that means. We delete spam and porn when we find it. On rare occasion now when someone goes way out and personally attacks someone else in a manner that offends the taste we might delete or edit his offending post. Usually the guy would have come back and edited his sharp words spoke in anger anyway and we here no more about it. I am sure that you would do it about the same. Just for the record, I have the highest respect for Bill and I read almost all of his posts.

This is a forum where people who are intent on obtaining knowledge concerning firearm accuracy can discuss their ideas openly and gain knowledge from others. For the most part, we are all friends here.

You are right I missed that post.I will do a search and see why Wilbur has pulled the plug.

Bill
If you have been reading Bill Calfee's posts you will already know the biggest problem is often the Supermoderators themselves. They don't like Bill C for some reason and instead of just ignoring him like most people would they attack him.

Strange thread..... kind of like kids passing notes in grade school. Billy won't play if anybody else is allowed in the sandbox.
This all seems kind of silly to me.

As you may recall it was tough for Bill to post his thoughts without dealing with a bunch of what where then called "Funny People".It reached a boiling point and Wilbur gave Bill his word that he could have a thread of his own and nobody was to post in it.Bill has never posted on anybody elses thread or responded to the funny people.
Dennis has been posting threads for a while now trying to get a response out of Bill and so far it hasn't worked for him.His latest effort was to get Wilbur to go back on his promise to Bill and apparently Wilbur fell for it.
Bill as you already know has been a total gentleman through this whole ordeal while others could be deemed as a discredit to the shooting sports.I actually don't think most of them even compete.
Hopefully Bill will see what has happenned and who encouraged it and just add that poster to his ignore list.
Lynn

Ordeal???????

An ordeal is going away to a foreign land to fight for your country, an ordeal is living with the pain of a devastating illness, an ordeal is losing a child, friend or longtime pet.

Having "funny people" post messages on your thread is NOT an ordeal.

No one has more respect for Bill Calfee than I do but he doesn't need a bodyguard or someone constantly having his nose too close for comfort. He is an adult and, as such, more than capable of making life's small choices regarding sharing information with his friends and others. I hope he continues to provide his knowledge and expertise. However, if the minor inconveniences of this forum are not worth the trouble, then I will respect his decision.

Perhaps the answer is a blog of his own, where only one person can post messages. Surely, one of his friends could arrange this and even teach Bill how to post pictures. A win-win for everyone.

Can't have it both ways

Bill had that thread to post whenever and what ever he wished to post without intervention. He chose to venture forth on his own accord which defeated the purpose.

Are you saying the Model 52 stuff broke the deal?

Bill has started a number of threads "since" indicating that his initial desire to post "unchallenged" didn't meet his needs. I've re-installed the "Blog" feature and perhaps you can work with Bill to get that going. I'ts tailor made for those that prefer control of comments.

The article section of the site is also available to anyone with a desire to write.

Wilbur,
Whatever decision you made I can live with whether I liked it or not. We all know that Bill was trying to use his experimentation to show us his honest ideas. But he also would not take any true, deep questions or criticism. That seems as one sided and possibly commercial when the threats of non-competitive results from non-Bill guns in matches with Bill guns. I understand your decision.

Lynn,
I've seen your posts on Bill's thread and he answered them with your name as first reply and you think that others shouldn't be able to do the same? Why do you, really why do you, question anyone else doing the same? Come up with a really good answer and the forum may just have some respect for you.

I've seen similar specialized favoritism in southern Indiana in the past year from Bill. I've seen the bad and the good. But I've never seen it from any other gunsmith. It seems Bill has his own agenda and within the rules of this forum he wants to push that even farther. I appreciate his openness on some improvements of accuracy. I do not like his openly non-spec. attitude on selling his guns. I've never asked or bid on one. But I can tell you that it was not necessarily to the highest bidder (to the intention of the spec. gun original thought by us on this forum), it went to those he wanted it to be built for. But remember, don't be afraid of his guns.....be afraid of his shooters. Remember they only shoot for fun in the winter with pistols. Even those folks are changing, even the die hards. They now shoot rifles. I did not see a 250-25X score in the RBA indoor nationals, and that tells me that these guns are not invincible like Bill wants the rest of us to think.

I fully agree that Wilbur can do whatever he likes as this is his website and I have no problem with that at all.Wilbur actually called an unscrupulous gunsmith up on my behalf and got my gun back from the crook so I am indebted to him fully.I did however think that Wilbur gave his word to Bill that the big thread would be left alone and if that is indeed true well then leave it alone.
Yes I realise Bill has stepped away from the thread when he felt like it but it was always his safety blanket so to speak were he was guaranteed a safe haven. Is that right or wrong really doesn't matter as he was given the big thread a while back and thats that.

Now as to the second part of your question Bill is not required by law to answer anybodies questions including mine.If HE answers a question by myself he either has taken pity on my sorry butt or HE thinks it needs a answer.I can guarantee you with utmost certainty I will not answer certain posters questions as well.If one acts like an idiot or Funny Person they simply don't deserve an answer. Is one of the greatest rimfire gunsmiths in the country required to answer questions from people openly treating him the way posters on these boards have? I think not.
As to your question of posters respecting me I couldn't care less.I give what I believe to be truthful answers when I think I know them.If I am wrong I accept it after trying the opposing point of view and verifying the other poster is correct when possible.
Believe this I have tried many things posted here that are claimed to be real accuracy improvements that tuned out to be hog wash.If somebody then asks a similiar question they get my honest and open opinion on the tool.gunsmith, scope, barrel, trigger, stock, muzzle device or whatever it may be.
A quick check of this is currently available for you to actually see with your own two eyes.I doubt you will take the time to read the thread but it is there for the people who want to see it.On the centerfire forum somebody asked a question about a tool to improve the tightness of primer pockets.A very well respected eastcoast shooter gave his comments and I gave mine as I have personaly used both tools. The responses are 180 degrees in opposition of each other and I will stand by my post to the death.I am sure the other poster feels he is also correct. It never happens here but just maybe the original poster will spend his hard earned dollars on the tool and report back to us his thoughts.I would like to see them.

I must have missed the post that said Bill could only post in the big thread can you quote it for me or post a link to it?
Lynn

Geez! please leave the big thread alone, the way it was. I have a Bill Calfee scrapbook, started it many years ago and I'm pretty sure I have a copy of every word Calfee has ever written publicly. It was a sad day be me when he decided to quit writing for PS, call PS and ask the lady who answers the phone what author is the most sought after for reprints, I think you know the answer. To my knowledge, no other gunsmith has been as prolific as Calfee, I've seen a few other articles but very few. There are hundreds of other guys who feel the way I do, but just don't say anything. Thanks, Douglas
