The weather was beautiful for the match today. The conditions started out pretty light and some good scores where being shot but by match 3 the points were falling with regularity. The wind was switchy with hard pickups and letoffs, my probes would go from a nice gentle push to maxed out in a blink of the eye and if you were breaking a shot when that happened it was 9 ring bound or worse. Cuz'n Roy Darnell took us to school w/ 250-10x score, Tommy(HFV) Mckee was second w/ 247-8x and Phil Lewis was 3rd w 247-6x. We had 13 shooters in VFS and 7 shooters in Factory class. I can't remember the young man's name that won Factory class but he shot a fine score of 240 with a hot shooting Savage in 6br. That was an excellent score for a factory gun in some tough conditions. I'm sure Jeff or someone will post the results soon so he can get the credit he deserves. Thanks to Jeff, Bob and Dennis for a fun match. See ya at the range, Steve

"the rock"

:)Great weathe, great shoot, thanks to Bob and his clan. Those two Savages, Steve Stanley spoke of, were riding a single "Tan Paint Pony" on the north side of Columbus County, (forbidden lands) (don't pass thru w/o protection. Me and fellow shooter picked them up and brought them to "The Rock" . They were cleverly disguised again this year, but they are none other than a father in law/son in law team "Papa Smurf Savage " and a cyber character "Pac Man, Heath Packer Savage. The Pac Man shot a 240 w/x amount of x's. Pa in law, Papa Smurf was @ great disadvantage, (also w/240 and some x's) shooting a 22-250. He could have easily beaten the son in law, but the _Pac Man made Smurf baby sit his 9mo old baby , 4 days straight w/little sleep. The second disadvantage, Mr. Smurf Savage allowed the Pac Man to pre-load his ammo I'd have to draw the line somewhere.
Again, great shoot and great time. All safety rules and club rules were observed. Great job Bob!!!!!

The ROCK

This was my third trip to shoot at the Rock. I enjoy it more and more everytime. Everybody is so nice and easy going. I will go back again. As far as the Savages go with that switching wind, A LOT OF LUCK. Thanks to all for letting us shoot with you. We also brought a new shooter, Baxter Canady, with us this time. He has got the bug to go back already. Hope to see ya at the next match.

The wind @ the "Rock" was pretty mild considering conditions me and many group shooters have experienced in the past. From 3 MPH to mild hurricane conditions/. Once the wind blew my reloading canopy into the woods and hail fell @ same time. I remember once, (.8xx" won small group pine board (trophy).

240

that's a nice score for a factory gun. Nice shooting.

I've noticed most of the heavy barrel Savage varmint rifles are capable of good scores. I've seen both the 1st and second place rifles shoot better scores. I think Pac Man shot 243 @ last Rock match he attended. I have seen a .4xx" group from his 6BR @ 500yds and several
2" and under, shooting 68 Bergers in the 8 twist barrel. (amazing sometimes)

Thanks to :

A big thanks to Bob and Dennis.

To Steve Stanley for scoring.

To Jeff Miller for computer stats. and running targets.

Savage 6BR

I was never a Savage person. I wouldn't have a rifle unless it was Remington or Weatherby. I bought my first Savage (2nd place gun) and won the first match I shot in. I have been hooked ever since. My other Savage (1st place gun) is a shooter but is kind of odd. I want to shoot heavy bullets but haven't quite got it worked out. 68 Bergers over h322 is my best shooting load. Who would've guessed? Thanks again to everyone who has a part in the matches at the Rock. HFV has also taught me a thing or two.
