Magna porting question

I need to reduce recoil on a 6.5x284 due to a medical condition.
Will magna-porting cause accuracy problems?

If you want to reduce recoil and muzzle jump, have a gunsmith install a brake on the barrel.

I think a screwed on brake is a better way to go... the biggest problem with porting is cleaning the barrel and the damage that easily occurs at the port...

I agree with dennis, I've got both and niether caused problems with accuracy,,,,,,, the screw on brake is a lot easier!!!, got them on most of my mag's and on my 6.5 x 284, it doesn't even rock in the bags, zero recoil shooting 142 SMK/ 52+gr's of H4831SC,,,,,,,,,,,,

the wind is my friend,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Competition

Remember that the NRA rules forbid a muzzle break in competition.

Why not set the barrel back and rechamber to something milder. Should help barrel life also.

I have a few rifles with a screw on muzzle brake and it definitely effected the accuracy on mine, but if you take off the muzzle brake the grouping back to normal (mine is around .50 - 1 inch grouping for 100yds shot)
With the muzzle brake on for a 100 yds shot the difference is almost 1" (it spreads to 1.5" - 2" grouping) and I've also experienced a rifle that have been Magna ported, this particular rifle retain the same accuracy (same grouping), but it only reduces the recoil by about 10%-15%.
Hope this will help..... Good Luck !!!

Shooting a barrel with a brake and with the brake off may require a different load. My experience is if the brake reduces recoil, it usually is not installed correctly. The machining or fit is not correct. In most cases with hunting rifles a brake increases accuracy.

I think you meant to say

Your are right... I meant to say accuracy... but in my defence it was very early... :D
