Good evening Guys/Gals. Rich De referred me here and said I should question the minds here. He was drawing a blank on bullets.
While I don't shoot BR, I have a 7mm hunting rifle and I'd like to try and find another bullet option.
Here's the rifle, it was built by Kirby Allen of Allen Precision in Fort Shaw, Mt.:
Nesika Model M Hunter
Lilja SS, fluted 1-9, 4 groove, 28" barrel, #6 contour
APS Slim Painkiller muzzle brake
Jewell trigger
Manner MCS-GAT stock
Defensive Edge adjustable cheekpiece
HS Precision Detachable Magazine system
Nesika 20 moa SS rail base
NightForce Ultralight rings
NightForce NXS NPR1 5.5-22x50mm with zero stop
Rail mounted ACI
Scope mounted scope level
Harris S-BRM 9”-13” Bipod with Swivel Lock w/Bipod Loc
I wanted to keep the weight down below the 10# range, to make it a bit easier to carry around in the hills out West.
It's chambered in 7mm Allen Magnum, which is a .338 Lapua case that is necked down to 7mm and has the case body capacity increased by roughly 10%. It will shoot 175g SMK's at 3450 fps, and custom 200g Wildcat bullets at 3250 fps. Those Wildcat bullets have a BC of 0.920 when shot with a muzzle velocity of 3200-3300 fps. It's a rebated boattail ULD design.
But they are hard to come by. Is there any other bullet that approaches the performance of a Wildcat bullet?
And yes, I know it's a wee bit overbore....
