The general public is encouraged to attend. There are lots of people that have never seen anyone shoot long range before and I am certainly not trying to get folks to shoot deer at extreme ranges but think everyone will enjoy shooting the 200 yards and 300 yard targets. One of my primary goals is to help promote the shooting sports and help educate shooters so that they understand the basics of bullet drop and might event get a few more people involved in shooting.

Here are the dimensions of the different targets

Chickens: shot at 200 yards: Measure 12 inches in height and are 14 inches wide

Pigs: Shot at 300 yards: Measure 15 inches in height and are 23 inches wide

Turkeys: Shot at 400 yards: Measure 23 inches in height and are 19 inches wide

Rams: Shot at 500 yards: Measure 28 inches in height and are 33 inches wide

All of these targets are made out of 3/8 inch thick AR-500 plate. they have 4 inch wide feet on the bottom and are sitting on railroad rails.
When shooting the match not only does the shooter have to hit the target, He also has to knock it down. This is important because a small caliber rifle may not have enough knockdown power to knock over the rams at 500 yards. It's pretty amazing also that sometimes a shot on the turkeys will cause them to spin instead of falling, they sort of walk down the rail and stay standing.

The most popular caliber for the guys that shoot silhouettes all the time in competition shoot 7mm-08's and the second most popular caliber is the 308 Win.

The smallest caliber that I have used is a 243 Win with 95 gr bullets. very seldom will a 223Rem knock down the rams.

I am shooting a tactical/precision match in Hoover that morning and it looks like you are only an hour away from there. How long do you shoot? Can I get a late (after noon) shoot time?

Two matches in one day is pushing it but it just looks like so much fun! :)

Come on to the match

From Hoover, you can be to the match in 75 minutes

Fun match Ron, thank you for your hard work and for having me.

Tony
