Leupold CDS?

Anyone ever gone through the process of of having Leupold supply you with a custom elevation dial for your particular load rifle/scope setup? Is it really any better than just calibrating/dialing in the one that comes on the scope?

I don't see the need for one. It would just confuse my brain and drain my wallet.

I believe it's free, but not sure how much it adds [if anything] to the cost of the scope at the factory. There is a card in with the scope that you fill out and send in and they send you a dial made to that load. Personally, I don't see the need for one either since I doubt that I'll be shooting at distances where it would be necessary to adjust elevation.

I just use the MOA ones then I can change my load or put it on any rifle in the future.

I really like them just like their Alumina caps to keep the weather & dust off the lens.

I've had Leupold make dials for two different scopes. The first dial is free from Leupold with each CDS scope you purchase. I think having a custom dial for your particular load is nice especially when hunting. Just one less thing to think about when getting ready to make a shot on an animal. The two dials I have are pretty accurate out to 500 yds which is the furtherest I have shot at a target.

cds dial

Ive got two. One on a 3006 and one on an ar-15. They've got to know the bullet weight and the M.V. Ive only shot mine at a 100 yds. It moved about right according to the book. I ve held over the varmints back for so long Id probably dial in 400 yards and still hold over his back. Doug
