Lapua brass ?

I recently switched to Lapua brass in .223 Rem. and loved it. I decided to try it in my Savage .243 win. project. I am using a RCBS neck sizer die I have used for years. I used mica on the necks. The pressure required to resize the necks felt like I was full length resizing. Both the down and upstoke required a lot of pressure. The necks are damaged as it actually displaced the brass on the inside and outside of the neck. There is now a brass buildup in the die and on the expander. I then ran my usual Nosler brass, after cleaning both, through with no problem. The neck thickness of the Lapua is .014", versus .013" for the Nosler.
Please help, Daniel.

Case lube

Try using Moly instead of Mica. Imperial lube works well also, but I dont like how powder sticks to the inside of the neck when filling. I have tried using Mica and found that Moly works much smoother. When I size my cases, I run them through a FL sizer, and use Imperial on the body, and Moly on the neck so that the lube doesnt build up in the die and put dents on the shoulder. ;)

Lube

I always try to use a product that was manufactured for that purpose.
Use some Imperial Sizing Wax.
That doesn't surprise me about the Lapua. They generally make all of their cases on the high side of the tolearance.
If you measure the out of the box cases at the web, chances are the Lapuas are as much as .001 to .002 larger there as well......jackie

Thanks for the replys, looks like I have a die problem. I used my FL die and had no problem.

I got a 257 roberts die from RCBS a month ago with the wrong size expander in it, bullets fall out of the brass. Try a redding S type die with the changeable neck bushing, and you'll get your necks right where you want them.
