She has property up in East Texas that her Brother, Sister and she will inherit. She got in an argument with her brother about using his tractor, so I told her to go by her own Tractor.......which she did. It has a 5ft bush hog, box blade, and front end loader.

She's happy. I figure that is Money well spent.

Now here is the rest of the story......

When my Wife's great Uncle died about 15 years ago, he left her this little Farmall 140. It just happens to be a 1971 model, the same year we were married.

We finally took possession of it, it runs pretty good, just has a bunch of leaks from sitting idle for years.

I think I see a restoration in my, (or her), future.

I finally took the plunge and got a tractor few months ago. The wife and I had some property near Daytona Beach, and its too big to cut any other way. I haven't found a bush hog yet but I am looking. Any suggestions on brand or size. The tractor is a Ford 2910 and is not a real big one at all, I think its 32 hp so I don't want to over do the mower.

According to what you plan to cut. brush or grass, a 4 or 5 foot cut is all a tractor that size will pull.

Brand? get a heavy duty one, several brands out there that fit that requirement.

was a 3 cyl liquid cooled diesel of about 43hp, 36 at the PTO. It was a heavy little thing at close to 4000 lb. My opinion is that it would have no trouble with a 6 food medium duty bush hog...unless you planned on tackling a lot of 1" and up saplings. I would look at New Holland, Bush Hog, Woods, etc. A good website to look at is everythingattachments.com Match the mower gear box to your PTO horsepower. A 5' would be a good compromise if you don't have lots of area to mow...if you do a 6' is better as you always do a bit of overlap and the area cut is not usually the full width of the blades. JMO.

are nice and don't forget to have her use her seatbelt! You will be glad you sprung for a sun shade top. Even in Maine in the summer its not fun without one.

2007 New Holland TC45 DA, 16LA loader and a sun shade top!! Have fun with it. Mine saves me about 2K a year paid to others to mow my fields.
 
Just be careful! A bush hog is one of the more dangerous items to put on the back end of a tractor. If you're just cutting grass or weeds, not so dangerous. If you're cutting trees or clearing badly grown up stuff - be careful!!

I have ( at least I think I have ) bought a 60inch Woods brush bull with about 40 hours on it. The gentleman has to go out of town for a wedding and I cant pick it up and pay for it till the wedding is over. The property is an old fernery that is planted in tree ferns and they will only grow under trees as shade cloth lets in too much sun. There are a few stumps and a lot of down limbs but it is not so tough on a mower. My brother mows a bunch of undeveloped lots and he mowed it last time and it was constantly chewing up a limb but not big ones. When he loaded his tractor up the bottom of the mower looked like chrome after eating up all the limbs. It hadn't been mowed in 3 years ( out of commission with knee and back surgery's ) so it will get easier.

This thread is long over, but I'll offer this for any late readers. I agree with the above and will add that HP is not the problem, it's the tractor being able to keep it's front wheels on the ground when you lift it. A 6' bush hog behind a MF 40 makes the front wheels very light when lifted, but has more than enough HP. I can cut three inch sapling, but you don't go straight over them, you back the mower into to them and thump thump thump they fall over. (may have to raise the deck to get it to bend over so the blades can reach the tree)
