Just a quick question. 30BR brass

For a 330 neck what should my brass neck thickness be after turning properly? Do most turn for .0015 clearance or is .002 a better bet? If .002 was the better bet what should my neck thickness be? I am assuming some were around .0091 to .0097 ?? Just curious. I am gearing up to turn my own brass finally, so i may have more questions to come. I have relied on other folks long enough, and winter is here in central Illinois so i figure now is a good time to learn! Thanks Lee

I shoot a .330 neck 30br and I turn mine to .010". I shoot a Conley bullet with a pressure ring of .3083

I also just went to a .326 bushing on my die, and that seems to have been the thing my gun likes.

Just out of curiosity can you place a bullet back into a fired case without much resistance at a .010 neck? I cant with this one Krieger barrel. i tried some brass that measures .0092 and it seems to shoot much much better. I have a feeling my chamber isn't exactly a .330 chamber like it is supposed to be? I understand that these measurements can vary a bit during chambering depending on speed of the reamer among other things. I have a new brux barrel that jay cutright chambered and it shoots really well with a .010 neck. I dont know, just playing around a bit. Do you fellas think that a little extra room is a bad thing? I dont see how it could be as long as it isn't excessive. But there again, what do i know. I just try to listen to the rifle the best i can. Lee

I try to achieve exactly .002 clearance as measured on the largest portion of the neck when a bullet is seated. With a BIB 112, that means the wall thickness is about .0098.

Don't go by the wall thickness. Seat a bullet and actually measure the round, (where the gas ring is will be the biggest point). Keep in mind, measuring with a ball mic is kinda touchy, (and yes, I am a machinist), and when measuring wall thickness, any error is doubled. It is much easier to ascertain the true measurment by simply measuring the loade round.

With .002, I can slip a bullet back into a fired case, just barely......jackie

Let me ask fellas. Can to much clearance, say .003 cause any ill effect on accuracy, or is it just a matter of overworking the brass? Thanks Lee

No Problem. About half of my cases have .003 clearance and they perform just as well as those with .002 clearance.
