On April 2nd and 3rd, Tacoma Rifle and Revolver Club held their first benchrest match of the year. This contest would determine the winner of the Allen Bench trophy. Saturday was chilly in the morning, and the forecast was for light to medium winds. Conditions were mixed, we did get a few breaks where it was calm and quiet, but Saturday was just a precursor to what Sunday would bring. We began with our light varmint contest at 100 yards on Saturday morning which was won by Jeff Crose with a .2126" agg. That afternoon at 200, Jeff Crose again showed his shooting skills and won the yardage (.2409"). Jeff Crose on bench 1 took the grand aggregate with an agg of .2268", with Dan Kjelland second with a .2606" aggregate, and Steve Kostanich in 3rd with a .2731" agg.
Sunday brought more cold and windy conditions for us. We had every conceivable condition, sometimes all at once, and deer on the range caused delays. We shot the Heavy Varmint class at 200 yards in some of the worst conditions I've seen at TRRC in years. Jeff Crose shot a .3166" agg. to win the yardage. At 100 yards, Mike Zdilar took the yardage with a .2376" agg. Jeff Crose held on to win the HV grand aggregate (.2972"), with Jeff Lewis in 2nd place (.3131) and Mustafa Bilal in 3rd place (.3170).
Jeff Crose wins the 2 gun with a .2620" Grand agg. Jeff was definitively in the driver's seat the whole match. Congratulations Jeff!
It was great to get our benchrest friends all together once again. Thank you to Jim Stipe (Stipe Engines) for his beautiful donated trophy, and Eldon Yarbrough for traveling from Oregon to come shoot with us. A special thank you to Russ Haydon for bringing hot dogs and chips for lunch on Saturday. It was a treat to have you back, even if only for a day, and being a mentor to Bill Bruce
Of special note: Match winning groups were shot by Jeff Crose, Mike Zdilar, Dan Kjelland, Bryan Zolnikov, Musafa Bilal, Jeff Lewis, Jim Stipe, Steve Kostanich, Eldon Yarbrough, Ken Parsons and Dan Kjelland.
See you next month for the Manley Oakley memorial shoot.
Shoot small,
Jeff
