Interesting note while making 30 BR cases

Yesterday I made 80 new 30 BR cases from 6 BR Lapua brass. I turned the necks in a new fashion to me as I have always turned them in a Lathe I used a new PMA turner. I did notice since doing this by hand (in a cordless drill) rather than in the Lathe with a 5 HP motor, that it took a little more pressure for the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the neck leading me to believe the necks were harder in that first section than the last where the bulge is from opening up the neck. This could also be from the cutter taking more material and pulling the case towards it however I did not really notice a difference it the amount of resistance for the tool to rotate. I had intended to anneal the brass after completion anyway but found it interesting that it seemed harder where it had been worked only one time since being annealed from Lapua.

By the way the PMA neck tuner worked great I opted for the model A 30 degree cutter with stainless mandrel this worked fine I put lube on the mandrel before every case and never had an issue. I did need to readjust the cutter depth after about 35 cases and it never changed after that.
