When you change barrel, do you need any kind of gauge or tools other then a barrel vise and action wrench? The only thing that I know about this is to make sure barrel threads are clean.
How much torque do you apply?

Please explain more about the barrel you are installing. Examples; is it from Hart or a known benchrest gunsmith, etc. How was the chamber headspace determined when this barrel was chambered.

As to torquing, if it is a small Hall, probably about 75-85 ft/lb, for a Hall M or larger, about 100-125 ft/lb.

Make sure you have an ample coating of a good EP grease on the clean threads.

Hall action and new barrel

Hi Jerry:
It is the M action. It is a .262 neck 6ppc hart barrel. The barrel was chambered by a gunsmith in North Carolina , last name, Messer. He made entire rifle and supplied the extra barrel. The work was done in 1993.:confused:I have no idea how it was headspaced.

OK, that would be James Messer. He still gunsmiths but mostly rimfire now. If he did both barrels when he built the gun then the headspace should be ok. James has used mostly Hart barrels since he was a good friend of theirs.

Thread Lube

Don't forget anti-galling thread lube. Good insurance.
