Has anyone ever tried IMR 3031 in 6PPCs? What would be a good range to be in? Thanks. Al.

Burn rate is a tad too slow but worse, those LOOOOONG kernals meter like hell...

But in day's of NON - AVAILABLE powder.................... What ever you can get your hands on if ya don't have a stash of the GOOD PPC powders...
Feel for the new guy try'n to get into shooting sports and reloading...:(

actually Tom Horenbeck ?? shot it back in the 80's and set a few world records with it 100,200& 300, but I would think its slow..

I just got back from trying out three loads of 3031. I used 26.2g, 26.6g and 27.0g and got the following groups: 0.416, 0.402 and 0.419. I was using the components that I usually use with N 133 and get 0.2's and some 0.3's. So don't waste your time with 3031. Al.

Was this all the powder that would fit in the case through a long tube?
Did you chrono to see if it was anywhere close to your 133 tune?

I didn't have a long drop tube but I jiggled the case and could only get that much in with it filled half way up the neck. At that point I didn't think it was worth the effort to conograph this stuff. By the way you have to weigh each load as it doesn't meter well through a Harrel's measure. Al

i briefly played with IMR 3031 a few years ago. i was able to get 29.5gr in a case and seat a bullet. no, i didn't chronograph it but no excessive pressure signs.

it shot best at 28.2-28.5 at 100 yards but i couldn't get it to do anything at 200.

i think i would go with virtually anything else other than 3031.
