ID of Winchester Lever Action

How can you ID a Winchester Lever action in a .44 Cal? Has Octogon barrel. No model number on the action or barrel. Has SN only.

44 REMINGTON mag or 44 WINCHESTER ???....44 WIN IS COMMONLY REFERED TO A 44-40...


GONNA BE TOUGH with no info...no win mfg data on the gun at all ??

Chuck, thanks for the link. I found out that my model 1903 was made in 1930 and that my model 70 was made in 1954. I'd bet that my granddad took a lot of rabbits with the 03 during the depression.

I went to that site, and have several dates that could id the rifle. Guess I need to stip it down and see if there are any hidden marks that will assist in the ID. It's a 44 Winchester.

No idea at which model you have? The first place to look is on the butt stock tangs. A photo will make the job simple.
