one of the major benefits of the original 8208's thunderbird, what ever , was the consistant throw.
with my limited shooting and a harrell's i can do plus or minus 0.05 or so....as in twice as good as plus or minus 0.1.
i cannot do it with any other br powder.

so.......

anyone out there with some of the new 8208, have both a good measure and a lab scale ?

do some throwing tests for us ??

thanks

Consistantly throw .o5 of a grain, I don't think so.
Butch

done.....
butch . i am new(only a couple of yrs)...the culver was new to me. i was told to practice. i did with n140( my 308 br powder) and was not impressed. tried n133 (my 6ppc/223br powder).....still not great. as other have said mostly 0.1, but some times 0.2.
then i tried some of my 8202.....BINGO!
i ran somewhere around 100 throws, on my mx123 scale........
i have said this multiple times on these forums...it is a good powder, its thrown consistancy makes it great.

Have to agree with Butch

I've used Harrell's, Jones, Forester, and now an RFD powder measure. I love Bob Dodd's measure, but it won't throw to .05 grain each time. HOWEVER........................
I set the Dodd measure to throw my intended 28.4 gr load of H322 and weighed 10 charges. They varied a bit above and a bit below and right on, then a bit above.........you get the picture. I then weighed 10 thrown charges and the weight was 284.0 gr. exactly. I tried it again 9 more times and it was no more than .2 grains off in either direction for the whole series!
This tells me 2 things:
1. I am not consistant in the manner in which I use the measure.
2. The measure is consistant (mechanically).

I have not tried the same test with any other measure, but I'm sure the results would be somewhat similar.

how well does the 8208 meter

It meters very well Just like benchmark only a tad finer.
If you do your part with your measure it should be easy to be consistant.
I weighed mine with a electronic scale and it varied very little.
My load window was about 31grs with a 65 gr 8 og bullet.
It didn't matter if you used the 68 gr bullets either Both bullets shot really well with the same load. The impact point shifted very little.

8208 xbr

I have been to the range today....shooting both N133 and 8208XBR. The XBR meters better than the N133. I believe that I can manage +/- 0.1 gr. with the XBR ...if, I throw any charges back that don't "feel" right. I use one of Jerry Hensler's measures.

This may very well be the BR powder of the future, but time will tell. James

I have a Harrels and I can't even get ball powder to throw + or - .1
Sure I might get 8 or 9 or even 10 cases in a row to throw + - .1 but sure enough somewhere down the line one will go up or down .2 and if it is a stick or even super short cut stick I will even get one off by as much as .3

I guess I am just stupid and uncoordinated and can't do anything right.

Thank you for your kind words and support.
You lifted my spirits.
Actually Butch has told me that I need a sturdier platform for my Harrels and it would throw a bit better.
If I could get 322 or any of the stick powders to throw like ball I would probably never use my Chargemaster again.
I believe that XBR will be a bit slow for many peoples taste in the 6ppc but it should really fit the bill in my .25. with 85 to 100 grain bullets. But I am just speculating. Lou and many of the others are much more knowledgeable than I am and they see great promise in the PPC case.
I asked one of my local dealer (McBrides) to order some and when they called Hill Country distributor the guy said "he hadn't ever heard of it and there wasn't any such thing."so they gave up.
I went to Reds and they said they would preserver and get me some as soon as they could. So I ordered 9 lbs.

I called Bruno's yesterday

Jason they are taking backorders, but are not expecting the powder until March or April.

Until I can get some definitive info. on the XBR for the ppc, I think I'll wait before I order any.
