Hi All , How many competitors currently shooting 1K Benchrest are using the MARCH brand of scope .. My interest is in the use of the higher powers like the 10/60 and the 8/80 but also the straight 50 and 60 powers .. Any info is helpfull..JR..Jeff Rogers

Jeff,

I'd say I'd guess there were at least a half a dozen that were used at the PA club. I was looking into getting one at one point, but cost and lack of shooting stopped me. They are a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. Optics that are simply second to none. The warranty also scared me a bit, it's rather short. That's something to consider.

I use a 10-60 on my LG, 1/16" dot fine cross hair. If I bought another it would be the 1/8" dot. Nice scope. Is it better then anyone of my Nightforces or U.S. Optics? I can't tell the difference in fact the only reason I bought it was to make weight.
As a side note I thought the 60 power would be nice to have but when it came time to crank it up, I usually had to turn it down do to mirage.

Thanks Phil & Vinny, Over here in Australia an 8x80 march is $4400 and a 8x32 NF is $1450 so as Phil said the cost is a consideration .. Plus i live in a northern tropical enviroment , the Sea,beachs ,Suntans and 90 % humidity and lots of palm tree's ,Mirage with a capitol M is a major factor in getting results .. I have had a 12x42 DD Nightforce for a long time and i don't use it past 30 power most every comp because when ya bump it up to 42 you can't see squat in detail on the target face .. Apart from the weight factor ,i guess i'm wondering if the $3000 difference is worth it, i can buy 3 barrels for that much ..Mabye even get some more of those beaut little 187 BIBs i use..JR..Jeff Rogers

In a day to day environment, I don't think the high end optics make enough difference to justify the cost. Aiming error probably eats up any gain just through lack of visibility. However, on those days where the air is so clear you can see the stitching on the fleas pinstripe suits at 1000, and if you have the gun that clusters up super tight, those are the days where that last little bit of aiming error is eliminated by the top optics. Ask Matt about shooting 2.8, he'll tell ya the visibility was phenomenal. According to him, it was as good as the best relay he ever saw, and he's seen a few.

Everyone from the USA is sitting here in shock when you say that 3K diff will get you 3 barrels.

On the westcoast we shoot with the guy who brought the original march scopes into the country and I've never seen a 8-80 on the line ever.
