I'm sharing this with all of ya because my buddy is the only man I would ever discuss politics with until I got sucked into this vortex. Steve would tell me "it's a bad neighborhood, don't go in alone" refering to this forum.
I recieved a phone call about an hour ago from my buddies wife. In so many words she said "Vin, Steve has brain cancer and doesn't have much time". Steve is a long time friend who made a living as a broker and is as far to the left as anyone I have ever met. He and I would discuss everything but never did we direspect eachother instead we respected eachothers positions. I have a lot of respect for the man, his political views are not how I define Steve. I define him by his love for his family, god and country. His desire to be the best he can be in all areas of life guided by his high level of values, morals and ethics. Never did Steve try to change my mind on any issue but instead tried to connect his position with mine. To find some commonality between two guys with polarizing political views was more important to him then changing my mind, or influncing me to come to his side or the "Dark side" as he would refer to jokingly. He lives far away now but he always has been and always will be my good friend.
Situations like this makes me wonder "How important is it" when refering to anything especially politics and how we are ready to create such pain for others. Is ones political ideology so important as to create enemies?
How important is it, not so important when you know your political opposition, a great friend will soon be gone!
