History of moving backers

I am searching for information when moving backers were first started and the distance behind the targets. I know the distance for stationary backers, 36 inches. Somewhere I read 3 to 6 inches for movers but cannot locate it again. Thank You

Ed,

I started short range BR in 1969, there were moving backer required then. I don't think there is a spec for how far the backer has to be from the record target. Check the NBRSA rule book to see what if any distance is required.
Moving backers are not perfect. Sometimes double hits occur and it is impossible to tell if the required number of shots were fired. Happened at a match several years ago. The backer appeared to have only 4 holes, BUT the record target clearly had 5 holes.

I'm not sure what the spec is but 3-6 in. is about where the ones I've been involved with are, they usually are mounted to the back side of the target frame.
