Here's an offer for anybody who thinks matche fees are too high.

MColeman

Club Coordinator
I will rent you my range for a weekend for $1,000. That's a return of 2.5 % on my investment.

In return you agree to:

Handle all duties involved in putting on a registered match with the NBRSA
This includes paying the stat crew, buying the targets, hiring, and training, if necessary the target crew, hiring the range officer, registering shooters, handling all questions and problems that arise, furnish toilet paper, clean the bathrooms, clean the range after the match, pick up all the beer cans, bottles and trash from the camping area. Haul off the garbage but you'll need lots of garbage bags. Pay the NBRSA their required fees, mail out match reports, write up match and get it to the NBRSA News in a timely manner and repair any damage done to premises during the match. You will need to print and have in place practice targets beginning Thursday morning and keep fresh ones available. Buy plenty of masking tape at $4/roll for taping holes in moving backers and stationary backers. I almost forgot arranging for the trophies to be ready to hand out. This will cost you about $400. If you want to return any of the few dollars left over to the shooters that is entirely up to you.

I'll have the range ready and take care of the mowing all year long.

My number is 334-382-6898 if anybody wants the deal.

A great post and needs to be read by the guys that just know you are getting rich. I have been to your range and know what you have put into it and not just what they see when they show up.

Match Fees

Thank you so much for your input!

I am a match director and you have just about talked me into leaving it up to someone who really cares so I can just show up and B****, shoot then B**** somemore.

you don't have it yet!

I can see your not use to this, you have to B**** in between shootin and bitchen somemore!!:D it is a little work, but it'll come to ya.:D

Don't you just love the whiners, there the one in every cub that do nothing but whine and B**** but won't even help with clean up or keeping the range running. Hey maybe there the same guys we deal with. Every club has them!:p

Every club has them!

:( And most are LUCKY to have only one of THESE individuals.......:(

Here's an offer

Mickey you left out a whole bunch of things':D
Your being too kind

Mickey, I thought you were getting rich

Just kidding, Ive seen ranges stop having matches because they were not making a profit. Of course your much better organized than we were:)

I only wished I had a place to compete within a reasonable drive for me. I would be willing to pay and help. Some people would gripe if you hung them with a new rope.
I for one take my hat off to all of the people running a range.Keep up the good work.
Terry Pohl

Thank god

For people like Mickey who own and or operate faculities and run ranges / shoots for us to enjoy the benchrest sport. It always amazes me to see how much time, effort, and money ya'll put into the shoots and operations for us to show up,have a good time and shoot a benchrest event. I have been going to Rachel's Glen for about 10 years. Every year there are improvements made from the last match and the year before. The same can be said for the other ranges I get to. Thank you Mickey and all others who owe and or operate a place and put on matches for us to shoot. Anyone with common sense and a brain realize ya'll do it for something other than the money. It does not take a money expert to know that you are lucky to break even on small shoots - 50 (fifty) or less shooters.

Jim, I don't keep records for the simple reason I don't want to know what it costs to run the matches.

Dorothy and I stopped in Montgomery at Country's Barbeque at ate lunch today. Two sandwiches and two teas cost me almost $17. I started to tell the guy just how he could/should be selling his food for half price. ;)

Well written Mickey. And you didn't really drive home the point that it likely takes you 6-8 hours of work for every hour of the match.

It's easy for petty ankle biters to bark at others, they've likely never had to run anything but their mouths in their life; ignore them.

Now, I've never run a BR match, but I............

know for a FACT that you do NOT have to clean up after other people's dogs. No, with all the Vibram soles out there, all that stuff gets picked up! (why do you think they're called Sh*t grippers??). You only have to scrub the floors after everyone REDISTRIBUTES that "stuff" for you, right??:D I used to do the cooking for a club that ran some small "club" matches in another discipline, and guys would tell me I should get "this" or "that" from "this" store, which was out of MY way, but THEY came right by there. So, I told this one HE should stop there and get "this" amount of "that" and bring ME a receipt and I'd pay HIM. "Oh, I couldn't, I couldn't do THAT" He said. I told him, "I'm LONG on suggestions, but real short on SWEAT!!" That ended that tune, from him, anyway. ;):D

I've had no takers up to this date. I guess that dream is dead. :( I reckon I'll just keep getting richer and richer.......

Ah Mickey,
To soon we get old and to late we get smart. I am about your age and I forget a lot now. Just doesn't seem to matter as much as it used to. I hope I get to shoot at your fine facility some day but I must face reality. Probably not gonna happen. I guess I got started in this game too late. Putting a 30BR together this winter. Maybe this will get the juices going again. Seems like I am always a dollar short and a day late. I wish good things for you....

Truth be told

I competed at the Winds of Manatee match this past weekend. It was a GREAT match extremely well run and a lot of fun in spite of cold wet weather. Since this topic of fees for a match has come up I feel I should report a conversation I overheard when I was standing outside of the scoring trailer between the guys who ran Manatee match.

Art Kelly and Buddy Ross were discussing what they might do with their share of the profit from the match. They both were interested in buying a new car. Buddy was considering a sports car like a Corvette or a Shelby Mustang. Art was interested in a new Mini Van that would get better mileage around town than his big van that he uses to pull his trailer. Larry Costa, after figuring the profit from the match, said he would take both of them to Wal-Mart and pay for the two Match-Box die cast models since he didn't think the profit would cover both $3.00 cars. Isn't it nice to have a problem solver around when you need one????

I spent a few hours today making rubber covered backers to put behind the targets so shooters could see their shots. Working on a range is like wiping your butt with a hula hoop.....there just ain't no end to it. :)
