I bought these rings 20 years ago and just found them in a box the other day. Can anyone identify what kind of rings they are? The only marking they have on them is a J within an oval. My guess is they are Jewell rings but I understand Jewell isn't making rings anymore. These are very heavy duty and are annodized matte black.

Thanks!

Mark

Looks like a set of rings I got free with a scope I ordered online several years ago. May have been tasco. I actually have them on my sons 22LR. Mine were a little taller maybe.

Oh...I also remember B square made a set that looked just like that also.

My be right...

You know, your comment got me thinking. I bot a 6x BSA scope a while back for a 30cal hunter benchrest project. I'm thinking these rings may have been thrown in with that scope. Maybe that's where I got them. Or it was a Midway deal...buy $10 worth of merchandise and we will throw in these rings... :)

George Kelbly had some rings made for a while by someone, I forgot who, before they started making the current Kelbly rings. These look like that. About 1990 I had bought a br gun built by George on a 40X that he had done for Lawrence Carpenter. Lawrence was one of the 80's or so shooters that shot in the Ohio area. He worked with Charles Delassandro.

Don't know....

But...they are definitely not Jewell rings. His rings had inserts that fitted into the concave portion of the outer ring, much like the present day Burris Signature rings. His inserts were aluminum rather than plastic. Unfortunately Jewell is no longer in the ring business. I have a set on my hunting rifle and they are great.

Not Jewell

Thanks for the input! I have a set of those Jewell rings with inserts. They are marked A on one and J on the other but no oval around the letters. I just didn't remember if he also made rings without the inserts. Thanks!

Jack Davis

Jack Davis made those rings. I have a set just like them and the oval-enclosed J is Jack's trade mark. Jack is a longtime California gunsmith located near the central coast. His customers were mainly highpower shooters.

FWIW

Thanks!

Dave,

You got it right. Now I remember from where I got those rings and Jack Davis is the man. Thank you for the info!!!
