Help to identify a Remington 700 .17 Rem.

I recently acquired a used Remington 700 .17 Rem. It has the varmint barrel just like a 700 VLS, with that same exact matt finish except the bolt. The bolt finish is like the 700 SPS, but the bolt is jeweled (kind of unique, never seen a finish like that before) and has the ISS bolt shroud. It came in a HS Precision/Remington stock like the one that came on the 700 VS SF (black and gray, not like the current VS SF II which is black and green). The serial number is G630162?. I should also note that this is a BDL style, the bottom metal does not match the barrel or receiver finish (VLS like) but is textured black (like a SPS). Can anyone identify this exact model and when it might have been made?

Thanks,

Ed

Seems someone has re-arranged/swapped some parts to your recently acquired 700-
G prefix serial numbered receiver is present day production.
Bbl code letters LH side fwd of receiver will identify barrel manufacture date-shortly there after, rifle was assembled/boxed/shipped.

The code on the barrel just in front of the serial number is AX. The serial number on the bolt matches the receiver, so I don't think anyone has re-arranged/swapped a thing.

In case anyone is interested in my quest for information on this rifle, here is what I found out. I contacted a friend of mine at the Remington Custom Gun Shop (he is one of their CSR’s), he mailed me a Global History report on the serial number. As it turns out it is a 700 VS (Varmint Synthetic) and was sent to Zanders in 2003. It is all original and the way I originally described it is correct, there were no mods. made to it.
