good br front rest for load development

Hey guys,
Wanting to get a benchrest front rest for load development.

Looking at Sinclair, Bald Eagle, Caldwell....any others? Any models to stay away from? Wanting a front rest for load development - don't need an seb or anything like that...just wanting something that will get the job done and not break the bank. Hopefully, I won't spend any more than $200.00 on the front rest.

I appreciate y'alls thoughts and advice.

For the price range of $200.00 I think your best bet is a Bald Eagle. If it were me I would opt for the cast base. A little heavier. Just my 1/2 cent worth.

Gotta agree with Vargetman, I just had a friend got one and it is a heckuva deal. A good copy of the original for 1/2 the price

P.S. I have owned 3 of the original Bald Eagles.
 
Cool, thanks fellas. If y'all know...how tough are they to convert for a lefty shooter? Read the manual and it looks like it will require tapping a new hole, etc.

The original Bald Eagle could not be reversed, I had 2 Left handed rests, (an Aluminum and then a cast iron). I cannot find the manual on line. It should be pretty simple to reverse the top assy. The Up down riser knob is the issue and that would be a little inconvenient to use with the wrong hand.

If its made like the old bald eagles you can just drill/tap new holes on the other side then loosen the threaded post and straighten the top.
 
Dick is correct about the adjustment knobs as I shoot left hand also. It,s as simple as taking a few screws loose and reversing a few of the top pieces. I have one of there adjustable tops and that is what I did. By the way I,m not exactly a rocket scientist. You can google Grizzly.com and look at the schematics and order parts they have for the rest. Bullets.com only shows and sells the whole rest. Two companies same owner.

Thanks to Vargetman I found the PDF instructions. Apparently it is only dealing with reversing the top. Bill's original windbag top which is all I am familiar with did not require any drilling and tapping to reverse. In fact he made left and right handed bases but only one top. The windage top came about a year after the original rest. BTW the cable adjustor moving the windage control to the rear leg was Bill's last big improvement to the Bald Eagle rest. I don.t think this feature was put into production before he sold the company, but I could easily be incorrect.
