What do you use for flag stands? I have been looking a camera tripods or light stands. It seems that a camerw tripod would be easier to make the pivot plumb.

You can make the pivot plumbs you mentioned by cutting delrin pieces say 1 in long drill to fit riser in stand and drill the other end to fit either 5/16" nails or 1/4" pins. I bought 8 stands from Sinclair and Russ Haydon 15 years ago.

To make your flags plumb, go to B&H Camera again and get the Giotto ball head swivels ,Mod. MH1004, and you can put your stands any old way and adjust your flags.

Thanks guys. I ordered some light stands and ball head swivels.

I am always trying to beat the system by thinking simple and cheap.

What I use is a flat wind flag with some ribbon tail like Wilbur describes in his article. THe stand is a modified fiberglass electric fence post that I bought from Tractor and Supply for a $1.75. It is a 3/8" fiberglass rod about three feet long and it has a foot step piece for putting it in the ground. It works great. Never blows over.

I can easily store 6 of these in a cheep gun case. I may try out a golf bag that the Tiger said he didn't think he needed for a while.

Don't mean to change subject, but would like to know how to contact David H regarding purchase of sail tails for my wind flags?

Halogen Light Stands

I bought light stands for halogen lights ( sold seperatly ) at our local hardware store. There is one more elevating section and each leg of the stand has an inner leg that can be extended for uneven ground.
