First Precision Rifle

I'm looking to get my first precision rifle and I'm having a hard time deciding what I want to get. I keep running through thoughts every where from a 5.56mm Mk12 to a .308 Remington 700 and the occasional .338. I personally don't think a major factory rifle is the way I want to go. I would prefer something custom with high quality reliable parts capable of delivering consistent accuracy. In the back of my mind is the 1000m club and where I would really like to be able to reach. I'm ok with either Bolt action or semi auto.

A little background. I started shooting when I was 7. Joined the military at 18 and have a lot of experience with ar15 platforms. Currently here at work we use an ar15 LMR and a Barrett M82a1, both of which I shoot very well. I have little to no preference as to bolt action or semi auto. I have experience with both styles.

Gonna have to go bolt action for real accuracy. The caliber can be narrowed down according to your personal preferences and capabilities

First off, welcome to the forum. Secondly, what level of precision are you looking for at 1,000 yards? There's a big difference between competitive performance and casual group shooting.
